i was told i could make a post. seems like a lot of people envisioned our run beginning with beating depaul last night (and, of course, we won) so im sure the boneyard is in a better mood than it has been lately.
i honestly didnt watch much of the game last night because i was busy with other stuff and figured we'd either kill them (boring) or they'd somehow beat us (which, admittedly in this point in the season and as much as i hate it, is not that far-fetched an idea), something i didn't want to watch. but, from what i saw from the box score, everybody who should have gotten theirs got theirs lat night. now, i'd hate to have to remind you all that it was depaul, but the numbers were very, very optimistic. ive been rooting for our guys the whole way and i really hope that killing depaul is the turning point like it was last year. it's a shame it took this long in the season for a truly full team effort, but there's nothing we can do about that. no need to continue talking about the problems ive mentioned earlier since everyone is surely keen to them by this point in the season.
that said, from the parts i saw, we STILL need to do SOMETHING more to defend the three better. i know im not the only one who saw depaul get two wide open threes in transition where there was literally nobody in the same half of the halfcourt court as the shooter. they missed them both, but that still cant be happening as often as it does. our guards collapse on the paint way too quickly to (i assume) try to strip the ball and leave at least one shooter wide open. obviously cant note the usual things since clearly the bigs AND guards showed up (less than 10 TOs i believe!) in the same game, and we saw what this team has had the potential to do all along. we all just have to hope that it continues.
i guess ill take this opportunity to address JC: i dunno how many people on here know what his condition is or entails, but "stenosis" is a medical term roughly for "narrowing." that means that his vertebrae (in his lower back, nonetheless) are literally narrowing and sqeezing down on his spinal cord *cue cringe. the amount of pain it can cause is terrible, and it explains why JC was not nearly as animated as he normally is in the last few games he coached. now, the therapy for this kind of condition is obviously different depending on the severity (which none of us here know for sure), but there is no real cure here. cancer can be beat and it will go away. the only real quick-fix-so-i-can-get-coaching-asap option for this is spinal surgery, which will put JC out for some time. and even then, it's not completely gone; JC will be in physical therapy and will have to be a lot less mobile for a long time. this is his spine we're talking about, so it needs to be handled with care. ill let you come to your own conclusion about how long you think JC will be out. im in no way on the side thats saying it's time for JC to quit, but i do know how debilitating this condition can be.
