If they tear down the ugly concrete exterior and rebuild, fine.

Gambling in urban centers is certainly a regressive tax in meth-fueled sheep's clothing. So are flat taxes.

I agree with an earlier post, why would I go to XL to place a bet when I can do so from my phone or tablet? Unless you make it a mecca of dining, clubs, something that gives you a reason to be there...this idea seems to be 20 years behind day-to-day reality.

I should have included this in my original post, but when I go to Atlantic City, I go to the beach in Brigantine, which is just right over that bridge near Harrah's. I go for a walk out on the beach in AC later on in the afternoon or early evening when its less crowded, but as far as spending the day at the beach, I do that on Brigantine.
Brigantine is not a bad beach

of course

if you have not lived in Greater Philadelphia or in NJ, WaWa is something else. Go to work ... and stop to get gas. And their Breakfast sandwiches were awesome. Simply a cut above Cumberland Farms or Stewarts or whatever
First introduced to Wawa in Jersey, have them here in Delaware - nothing in CT to compare. My nephew loves the place for subs when he's down here from NY. Coffee is better too.

Wawa meatball parms are incredible for a quick meal. Using the kiosks to order is so quick and easy also. I’m a big fan.

Never gonna happen but one can dream.

that's nice but I'd prefer a design for a men's room where the line doesn't snake halfway down the concourse and there's a clear traffic flow A) to the urinals B)to the sinks C)to the exit where people aren't bumping face-first into each other as they backtrack to the sinks.

When I lived in Stamford, I would go to Bobby V’s OTB once every few months to spend an afternoon drinking beer, watching sports and placing some horse bets. Even though I could bet through an app from home.

I can bet through apps (only) now in TN, but if there was a sports bar that had tons of screens and allowed in person wagering, I’d definitely do that.

Maybe I’m weird, but I like the experience of betting in person. I have 2 TVs in my living room, but on a Saturday with college football or basketball on that’s still not enough!

But will people go to downtown Hartford for that “experience” when Mohegan is converting their OTB into a massive book? Remains to be seen…

interestingly, wawa actually used to have a pretty big presence in ct. there was one on the corner of york and elm st in downtown new haven. they sold all of their ct stores in the 90's to krauszer's, which is kind of a tragedy considering how terrible krauszer's is.

When I worked over there, the Cranberry Walnut Chicken Salad sandwich at Krauzer's on Main Street in East Hartford was the best deal in the state.

Wawa is great. I wish they had them in CT. I would prefer a Wawa sub over places like Subway or Jersey Mike’s any day.

Wawa over Subway? Absolutely.
Wawa over Jimmy John's? yes.
Wawa over Firehouse? Yes.
Wawa over Jersey Mike's? Nah. Mike's is a cut above Wawa.

And please no one bring Sheetz in to this.

There was a Wawa in Hamden just behind SCSU, aka Second Chance State University (College back then), don't know what happened to it. Wawa is my go-to in the summer at the Snookie Shore.

I order from my phone and just pick up

Wawa and Jersey Mike's best of the bunch, but for me Wawa is 5 minutes away, Jersey Mike's 25.

Royal Farms fried chicken for the win....

MGM in Springfield has a lounge area with a bar, comfy stadium seats, and a huge wall with TV's for every game. Was there last Sunday playing poker and took a break to relax and watch football there for a bit. You can't bet there (yet), but I like the concept.

My father and I already have plans to go to Foxwoods during the first few weekends of March Madness to bet some games, have some beers, and grab lunch. I don't see XL doing it as well though, and it will likely flop. They would have to incorporate some decent food/drink/entertainment options in addition to the sportsbook. A poker room would make it a home run. Would be a great place to hide from the wife.

I’m bummed that Massachusetts keeps dragging its feet on Sports betting. I live about 10 minutes from the Plainville Casino. It is expected that Penn National would put in a nice Sportsbook as soon as authorized.

I always wanted to go to Vegas for March Madness, but a decent local sportsbook with similar viewing of every game plus bar and food options would be even better.

But I like the pretzel rolls at Sheetz. Wawa is 10x better though.

Wawa was in Connecticut. I used to go to the one in Cromwell all the time. They left the market years ago. Sad day. Just as mad that Tim Horton's left the CT market as well. Nothing better than Timbits on a Sunday morning. Ok Neil's donuts but that's apples and oranges.

Interesting. Is Jersey Mike’s meatball or steak and cheese good? My favorite was DAngelo’s but many closed. In Florida there is Hungry Howie’s (500 nationwide) and they do calzone subs that are amazing.

Perspective on this.

If I'm going to any of these places I'm somewhat in a hurry and in an unfamiliar location.

When I do order subs I'm a cold cuts and veggies kind of guy.

I couldn't ever see myself ordering a meatball sub, chicken parm, steak and cheese or tuna salad from a chain. Those gotta be from a local mom and pop.

It's Christmas and I have to give you a pass on ypur Hungry Howie assessment but oofff it is not good food.

There was one in Wethersfield too IIRC.
