Help w/ Spring Break ideas!

As many here know, my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in August and thanks to the research/support/care of all the people medical field, she is cancer free and has her final surgery early next month, with her recovery coinciding with our spring break starting on the 15th.

Flights this soon after surgery are out of the question, but looking for ideas for a two-night trip that will be in March, and no more than a 3ish hour drive from SW CT, a Monday-Wednesday trip to keep costs lower (that's what I tell my wife) but really to avoid missing any NCAA Tournament games.

We're hitting the Outer Cape in June, so that's out of the equation, but we tend to gravitate to towns that have an art/nature/food/historic vibe. Would be fun to see a place we haven't seen so it would feel extra vacation-y.

Ideas in mind:

• Cape May, NJ (both of us have never been)
• New Hope, PA (both of us have never been)
• North Adams, MA area (we've been multiple times, but it's been a few years and it's a perfect Spring spot).

We're open to Catskills, but something different than Beacon/Hudson/Kingston as we've been to those places a bunch and the vibe has continued to lean more towards trust-fund NYC-ish buzzkill.

Good call with Portsmouth. I’ve only been there for lunch there en route to Maine and it’s close to so many nice coastal spots. Also, as an adult, I’ve only been to Portland chaperoning a trip, but for the few hours we were there, meals at the waterfront were super nice and a fun spot to walk around.

New Hope is fine for stopping for lunch and an hour of antique shopping.

Yeah, I’d do this.

Portsmouth if you’re the classier sort, Portland if you’re not.

Catskills are great if you plan on spending the days walking up and down mountains. Boring if you’re not.

Good deals on some nice bed and breakfast inns during the week.

The Cliff Walk is nice, visiting a couple of the mansions, tennis hall of fame (never been) and some good restaurants.

First of all, congratulations to your wife for beating cancer. North Adams may be in "mud season". I spent one day/night in Portsmouth (when we visited UNH) and that was enough. Got bored. Portland has a bit more going on. I second @cullaville on Newport, certainly fits the art/nature/food/historic sweet spot. But you've probably been before.

Outside the box, maybe the Ipswich/Glouster area or Salem/Marblehead area. Scenic, plenty of history and local art with great seafood. Privateer rum in Ipswich is a nice tour.

Thanks to everyone's kind words! Means a lot.

When I first saw Newport, my first thought was been there too many times but then I realized that I haven't been there in five years and that was just for a wedding. Checking hotel prices on weekdays, it's wayyyy cheaper, and, like anything in Rhode Island, it's close to other stuff as well.
