Excellent article about Marquis Barnett, who basically grew up homeless. As I read this article though, I couldn't help think -- if he didn't play basketball, no one would have cared about him, and he'd probably still be on the streets.

A large percentage of these kids come from backgrounds far more 'compex' than the ones most of us have experienced. It's something to remember the next time some idiot here loses his s*** because some kid didn't put a ball in a basket.

well said... its a huge step that these guys are even on "college campuses"

Great read. And a great reminder that, while it's fine for fans to care if these players win or lose games, everyone needs to remember that there are more important parts of these young men's lives beyond winning and losing on the court or field.
