UDel up 16 with 7:48 to go. Drexel does not have enough offense to come back.

In the wonderful world of midmajor wbb, W-GB is once again struggling with Detroit.

Don't know if anyone else has checked out Florida Gulf Coast, but I took a look at their archived A-Sun tourney games on ESPN3, and they may be an unpleasant surprise for some unsuspecting first round higher seed. They feature three seniors, so they'll be down for a couple years after this, but they have a really shining frosh, 6-3 Whitney Knight that...well, I'm not exactly sure what her top end is, but it's really high.

Whitney could make it a bad Knight for the opponent.

If any of Mel's toughness rubbed off, her team must play hard.

Very frustrating watching EDD play against this level of talent. I can only imagine how UCONN fans feel. That is so much talent to be on the floor with players who obviously cannot challenge her. I would love to see her play against teams like UCONN, Notre Dame, Stanford and Tennessee to see how good she truly is. Sorry to bunch UCONN in with UT. I know that they played MD but MD is ranked 21st in the nation in FG% defense and not even in the top 50 in points allowed per game.

It is hard for me to even compare her stats to Nneka's and BG's due to the talent level she is facing.

Since EDD will never win a championship does that mean that she cannot be considered as one of the best to ever play the game?

EDD will not win a NCAA title, but she might break Jackie Stiles' scoring record, get 1 or 2 Olympic gold medals, and be a WNBA All-Star. If NCAA titles are what matters, Griner hasn't done anything yet. You guys are the favorites, but the Final Four could be very tough. Suppose that BG gets none. :)

Well -- the opponents talent level has no bearing on Free throw shooting; and Elena is surely one of the best FT shooters in NCAA and high school history.

I have been skeptical of their high ranking until today.
Count me as still skeptical of it. Grossly over-ranked as a top 10 team.

Got that way just by winning and winning and winning against . . . nobody of any consequence other than an early home ambush of PSU. Scored some points in losing to defensively challenged MD. Other than that, simply haven't played anyone in the top 25.

Outstanding among their mid-major peers and should win a couple of games in the NCAAs. But I expect them to go down to the first legit top-25 team they encounter.

I've been trying to think of how well they would do in the BE. They are not as athletic as SJU or Rutgers, but I could see them in the mix with the 6 teams below UConn and ND. A conference record of 10 or 11 wins and a ranking of 15-18 seem close. As with ND, a lot would depend on how games are called. ND lives at the line. If EDD gets a lot of calls, she makes tons of FTs. If she doesn't get calls, Delaware's record drops.

In the tourney, if they play an athletic team with a great zone or press, they will be vulnerable. If EDD shoots 10 FTs, I like their chances. I think they win 2 games, maybe 3, depending on matchups.

I think they would struggle with top 10 teams but be very competitive with the next 15 and beyond. We don't have many data points, but they beat Penn State at home and lost a close one to Maryland on the road.

Graham writes that the game was too physical. Maybe, but the BE tourney was more so. Several UConn games this year were more physical. Maya got held and pushed far more at Stanford than Elena did today. Elena is not as strong as Maya, so when she gets pushed hard, she moves. As a result, the contact may be more noticeable. The problem for Delaware's offense in the first half was not physical play as much as it was Drexel 's zone.

Agreed. She is a tremendous FT shooter.

There were statements that Mulkey owed it to women's basketball to make sure that Baylor and UCONN play next year. I hope that UD's coach feels the same obligation with EDD and gets more of the top teams on the schedule next year.

Yeah, I'd like to see UDel upgrade the schedule. They are a local rival for Maryland and Temple. I'd like to see them play Duke. I don't think EDD can score inside on Williams, but EW can't chase her all over the court. If Elena can get EW in foul trouble, it could be close.

I would enjoy seeing EDD bring the ball up the court against Sims. That would be fun to watch.
