Not surprised by this one bit...hopefully we don't finish there but I give Cav some time (and a new on campus barn) and we will be picked in the upper 1/3

*shrug* We have two more wins against Hockey East than I thought we would at this point. I think all things considered we probably should be picked last... but I think we're ahead of schedule. :)

Looks like UMess' pre-season ranking is saved by the year-one Huskies, but how great will it to finish higher? When I saw MC, first thought was Malden Catholic. Let's beat our Merrimack as well.

It should have UConn ahead of UMass and I suspect the coaches will get it right.

.-.
1) I think the coaches have us last as well.

2) Leaman has done a hell of a job at Providence - big opportunity for that program this year.

Yup. http://www.hockeyeastonline.com/men/pres1415/201409/sep22hea.php

2014-15 Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll
1. Providence (7) - 127
2. Boston College (2) - 120
3. Notre Dame - 94
4. Northeastern (1) - 90
5. New Hampshire - 86
6. Boston University - 83
7. UMass Lowell (1) - 79
8. Vermont - 75
9. Maine - 74
10. Merrimack - 37
11. UMass - 33
12. UConn - 26

Unless we have lights out goaltending that should be the expectation. The benefit of playing in a tough league is that we might be able to catch some of the top half coming off other emotional games and maybe steal a couple. Looking forward to seeing young guys logging icetime but there are going to be some tough nights. Still should be a fun season with a great selection of games around the state.

I have us 10th. 1. Providence 2. BC 3.New hampshire, 4. BU 5. Lowell 6. Northeastern 7.Notre Dame 8. Maine 9. Vermont 10. UConn 11. Merrimack 12. UMass.

Take it to the Bank!

Where UCONN finishes will be dictated by goaltending and how the freshman fare over the length of the season. Cav brought these kids in to build the "foundation" of this program so they should do ok this year. If UCONN is competitive night in and night out, good things will happen.

Quite frankly he has done better than any could have hoped. 3 years ago in this poll PC was picked last by the coaches and the media and now they are a favorite for the Frozen Four. There is some hope for all you guys as Cav gets the program rolling there.

I have a feeling Gillies is gonna have a HUGE yr and win the Hobey Baker this season Friar J.

Gilles is awesome. Would love to catch him at the coffin.

No arguments -Leaman's been a home run for Providence.

It's great for New England hockey and by extension, hopefully, UConn.

It's interesting because the team he recruited essentially with no ships (Union) won the National Championship last year with former Friar player and Leaman's assistant at the helm. The guy has an eye for talent. AD Driscoll was literally a pariah to Friar fans for the Tim Army, and Keno Davis debacles but he more than got it right with the two replacements.

I am, at best, a casual hockey fan. When my sis went to UMO I followed the Black Bears, and when I was was living outside of Detroit I liked to watch Red Wings games. But this HE thing has got me excited. Just seeing the list of local and regional rivalries is really great. To have the major state public schools from (nearly) all of the New England states in the same league is awsome (what the hell is wrong with RI?)! So sad this can never be in big time football. Looking forward to seeing some games. GO DOGS!

My understanding is that URI is actually considering it.

Hockey East is the most fun league in all of collegiate sports, and it's an awesome league to be a part of. It's really a neighborhood league. Put an arena on campus and build a competitive program, and this will be one of the most enjoyable experiences you could have as a UConn fan.

Boston U. is going to be a traveling circus this year with all the fans wanting to see Eichel. Most NHL scouts are saying this is going to be a helluva draft.

Eichel and McDavid are Sidney Crosby, Jagr, Malkin, type talents.

This means that Eichel will be the highest rated college player since the draft was instituted in the 1970s. Granted there have been #1 choices like BU's own Rick DiPietro, but that draft was not considered to have a star talent available.

Eichel's on another level than just about any player that's come into the college game since I started following the sport 11 years ago. He played his first game today, albeit exhibition, but tallied five assists in what amounted to a period and a half of legitimate shifts. It was clear his level of skill was in another world than everyone else on the ice, including his own team. He won't be at BU past this season barring something totally unforeseen.
