I like it too. I'm biased, I'm a homer, but I think the "consensus" outlook for this team is way too low. I think Coach P will exceed a lot of expectations.

The only thing I question is that DJ Shoemate is one of the best running backs in the conference. He is unproven. I do like that he slimmed down some. I think the weight he played at last year took away some of his explosiveness. I think he has a prototypical NFL body for a running back. Does he have the instincts and explosiveness, the vision? I think he does, (based on nothing he has shown to date, save for a very nice run during the spring game) but he has to show it.

I could see this team finishing anywhere between 7-5, to 10-2 (way to go out on a limb) . The defense is superb as are the specialist (though we have to see the longsnapper in action), I question if we have enough offensively, but then I like what I have seen out of Deleone coached offenses with Cuse and Temple in the past.

To quote Bart Scott, "Can't Wait"!

Agreed on that noeynox - the line about Shoemate caught my attention as well. You could say he's the RB with some potential who is most under the radar in the league this preseason... but the way that was written you'd think he was a top 3 rusher last year and right now he doesn't warrant that kind of expectations. I like the general point though, that PP should be expected to run a tight ship and perhaps more pundits should rate UConn a little higher, though I'm fine with flying under the radar again. And if we wind up 5-7 or 6-6 everyone will chalk it up to meeting expectations in year 1 of a new regime.

This is astonishing coming from SD who was supporting PP as recently as this offseason.

Jimmy - I don't support PP because I'm happy with 5-7 seasons.

I support PP because I believe he can get us to 9+ win seasons - it just might take until season 3.

If he gets to 8-5, I won't be calling for his head, but I won't be satified either. I don't expect 9+ every single year, but I would want him fired if I thought he couldn't get us to that level on a consistant basis.

make sense?

The list of coaches who broke through in their 3rd year is pretty long. Things can change quite a bit in one year

However, let's just look at UCONN. In 2006, we went 4-8 and only won 1 game in the BE. The next year, we tied for first in the BE.

I think the offense is going to get much better and our D will be pretty good.

P's got 9+ wins 6/14 years with 3 of them with 10 wins.

With the new conference, I like to see that more like 50/50.
