I'll get in front of a couple more names:

Butch: Walter Camp, Pop Warner
Spackler: Carm Cozza

I was going to say, "Is Art Shell still available?", but then I realized that Art is only 4 years older than Fulmer and Bellotti...

Alex Ferguson. One of the top football coaches in the world.
Any relation to Turd?

These are jokes right? I mean people are intentionally posting stuff like this to get a reaction right?

Our fanbase can't be so clueless as to just throw out any name they have ever heard before right?
Hey that's my friends Dad! He's not coming back East I can tell you that. He only went back to coach college for Weiss. He loves it out west, and enjoying the challenge of coaching vs Oklahomas, Texas and the rest of the big 12. He's a good guy, and those super bowl rings are huge...

A few years back Shanahan may have been a possibility at some school (not necessarily here). I believe that his father has a Lou Holtz agreement with the Skins however that he is basically grooming his lid to take over on a few years.

Beyond the numerous candidates (both quality and questionable) that we've mentioned, there has to be at least an equal number of quality candidates that we haven't mentioned (likely due to not having enough inside information on collegiate football coaching) who may well end up on the short list.

The more time goes by the more angry I get with the fact the JH saw P & Whip as the entire talent pool when Edsall left.

The "gravitas" associated with the next HC will tell us the following:

1) Something about UCONN's status as it relates to CR. To get a good coach will require SH to reveal cards; if there are any to reveal.
2) Questions about the ability to get kids (reasonably) accepted to UCONN will be viewed favorably by the coach.

You'd be "done"???

There isn't a name you could fill into the blank that would make me "done". You could name Roseanne Barr as the head coach of UConn, and I would still hang around to see if she got us into a bowl game. To each their own, I guess...
Sadly I would still watch or go to every game and waste way too much time here and other websites, I just can't take another dog piss hire. Any one with a half brain knew the PP hire was a joke and a terrible pick for where we were right then. Fulmer and Bellotti would almost be worse given their age, time off and the fact our program has zero pulse and we need someone to grab this program by the nuts and reshape and rebuild it. Those 2 old guys are just band aids at best.

Gravitas! Great word and fully appropriate here.

The next HC needs to bring with him built in credibility. When RE left we could have gotten away with a little known candidate (a hire far too creative for JH) but considering the drain that P has had on our fanbase, the amount of realignment that has occurred since P was hired (we were a couple of games into P's first season when Cuse/Pitt to the ACC was announced) and the overall drop in our national perception as a football program (which was brand spanking new to begin with), we may not be able to afford a quality hire who won't gain any respect until after he's begun moving the program in the right direction.

Another name I was just looking at Scott Frost, New OC at Oregon, hes 38 only a year younger then Helfrich. And has been a WR coach there for 3 years with Kelly. Imagine how exciting our offense would be. Honestly though I feel a OC job at the top of the PAC-12 may be a better situation then HBC of the Huskies.....

Tresses
Rich Rod
Petrino

Anyone else? And don't give me the "character issues" because we can't worry about them.
How would we get Rich Rod from Arizona? Didn't he just sign a long contract there?

Two thoughts:
1. I wonder if Manuel has any contact with peopel from Michigan's football past at all??
2. We have $1-$1.7 M to play with in hiring a new coach considering PP's contract.

PJ Fleck from Western Michigan is interesting. Bob Diaco from ND was who I was talking about last season but I wonder why he hasn't already gotten offers? Mario Christobal (frm. FIU HC, now at Alabama) another interesting guy. Bobby Petrino would be awesome and I'm sure he'd like to move up from Western KY to a place like UConn, but I wonder if Susan and Warde would bring him in considering his off the field past issues. Gene Chizek would also be interesting. Lane Kiffin? Has anyone heard about him on the hot seat this year at USC, he's on the verge of getting canned every year. Would he be a realistic coach here?

Wish List:
Butch Jones (Tennessee)
Bronco Mendenhall (BYU)
Pat Fitzgereld (Northwestern)
Chris Petersen (Bosie State) -all awesome coaches, and dynamic personalities which is what we need badly here at UConn.

Did you read the previous 8+ pages??? All in your initial list mentioned/discussed/diced/sliced/vomited/hugged/loved or summarily dismissed.

P.S. - TJ Weist is from Michigan Football past.

Oh you'd like to hire a successful coach from a P5 conference who never in a million years would take a single call from his agent about UConn. So would Warde.

Butch Jones for example has a base salary of 2.95 million. Just for example.

The only way we could possibly land a current B-5 head coach is if he is not a geographic fit for where he is or if he is not performing up to what they school/fan base expects/demands. This list will be very short and may not include anyone who can accomplish what we want (Richt is the only one potentially in this category I would want)

We will begin to find out soon enough (almost definitely before Christmas) if Warde is what he has been reported to be or if he is a fake. How he handles the hiring process and what (due to background) type of HC he brings in will tell us quite a bit. We won't know if the hire will be a success or failure until after many games are played but we will learn quite a bit about Manuel when the announcement is made.

Division II guy? Seems like a chance UConn just cannot afford to take.

Agreed. Could you land the next Brian Kelly from a Grand Valley State? Possibly. But I think that UConn needs to land a person with name recognition in order to not only jump start the team, but also to jump start the fanbase and to continue to grow our recruiting...
