Has any coach done less with more than Bill Self? | The Boneyard

Has any coach done less with more than Bill Self?

555 wins, 4 final four appearances, 1 title and tons of guys put into the league.

If you offered me that for the next 20 years, I'd sign up for it in a heartbeat.
so many people here would be upset with this. but I agree, would be very happy with this

Seemingly perennial conference champs.

High seeds year after year.

Cheating.

Only 1 title to show for it.

Currently getting run out of the gym by UNC.
I just now made it to the TV. Kansas down by 1. 12 minutes to go.

Regardless of the outcome of this game, I'm not sure why you'd use "Seemingly perennial conference champs" as a way to say he's been a bad coach...

I didn’t say bad coach though, did I?

More with less is a better headline. Kansas hasn’t recruited well those were a bunch of 3 and 4 star kids and transfers. Similar to our recruiting.

If only we had some more shot makers this season. None of these teams were light years more talented than us. Just better constructed.

Doing less with more implies bad coach, at least insofar as the non-recruiting aspects. A good coach would do more, a medium coach would do the right amount, and a bad coach does less.

Hardly. Expectations aren’t the same for every coach.

I have no problem taking the L on this post, and the roasting that comes with it, but I just find it weird to put words in my mouth when there’s much lower hanging fruit.

better than the Zags coach and the overrated one IMHO is Cal in KY always has a top three class at worst and yet only one title

Congrats to Kansas

2 national championships changes national perception quite a bit. Roy Williams at KUhad better teams with players staying 3 years at least and didn’t win 1 national championship. You really can nitpick any coaches tourney resume. Self also got Tulsa to the elite 8.

I apologize for putting words in your mouth. Feel free to elaborate. If not a bad coach, you think he's a mediocre coach with more?

Coach K, widely regarded as the best coach in the modern era, who has had plenty of more, perhaps the most, had 23 seasons with a conference regular season and/or tournament title in 42 high major seasons.

Bill Self has 19 such titles in 22 high major seasons.

He has a 4-7 record in the elite 8 in a little over 20 years, 2 championships, and a runner-up. Every single person on this board would sign up for a two-decade stretch like that for Hurley (especially considering he is already 4 complete seasons in @ UConn).
