If your not kidding and you have to be, I need to say that if UCONN football has fallen so low that we are now playing for individual records then I am done. F --- it, I'll just join my son in law and become an Alabama fan. Going out to dinner with my wife and friends. Have a nice weekend.

I ask this in all seriousness...why do we need to know what you're doing after you hit post reply? My life was complete not knowing your Friday night itinerary.

How do people claim they want the best players on the field and support this move. DID YOU NOT SEE THE FRIGGING GAME LAST WEEK?[/QUOTE

We all have to lighten up including you. This has been a long haul for all UCONN football fans. I was expressing frustration with J187money's concern over Noel Thomas's catch total and was basically was saying I am done with the BY for now. BTW in case your interested I'm watching the PITT Clemson game. It's a good one✌️

I love the Matt Canada offense - and especially that unstoppable shovel pass. I simply don't recall any plays where our OL stunts and pulls to open up the huge holes Pitt gets on that play.

I don't need to lighten up. The team needs to get better and need to stop reading absolute nonsense from our 'fanbase'.

What a game. PITT knocks off #2 at Clemson and becomes bowl eligible. Maybe one day...

DeShaun Watson's line: 52 completions, 70 attempts, 508 yards.

I'm not looking it up, but 70 attempts in a regulation college game is something I don't recall ever seeing. And this from a guy who was only probable earlier in the week due to a shoulder injury.

Those red zone picks though...

Wow - all of the nonsense here and that drives you away?

If we had won the game I would have been happy if Thomas sat on the bench the entire time. I was just making the point that amongst the litany of terrible things that we have had to watch this year, at least we had Noel Thomas. Now? Not sure we have much of anything that is watchable. I hope that Williams and the new OC prove me wrong.

I do enjoy a nice night out you know.

I started this thread stating my opinion that I was in favor of burning Donovan Williams Redsirt. If I didn't think I would get some serious flak from posting that then I should as Whaler said, check out my colors. What will bring fans out is the emergence of a talent like Williams who can lead UCONN back to respectability. As DW stated in the presser he has taken his first parachute jump (para phrasing)and that helps take care of the jitters and provided the opportunity to get a feel for the speed of the game.

We couldn't stop Ward and Flowers 0n the run this year. Let's all hope that Donovan Williams presents a true dual threat capability that other teams have to game plan for.

In Boyle's first start against USF, I actually saw a little promise. There were a ton of drops in that game and Boyle did not look like he was unprepared and looked like he at least belonged out there on the field. We know how that all eventually played out.

With DW, he didn't look like he was anywhere near ready to see the field at this stage in his development. And with a bowl bid still possible, for Diaco to think that the kid gave us the best chance to win that game is laugh out loud funny. The icing was the nonsense that DW told him he wanted to play so instead of being the adult (for the second time this year: see Navy game) the head coach leaves the decision to the player.

It's just unbelievable. The defense and explainations used to rationalize this are just insane.

Jimmy, first game, let's see what happens. All decisions come with risks and understand there is not a lot of confidence in coaching decisions but millions of dollars are being paid for those decisions and careers are at stake. These are not flip decisions.

These last few games are helpful for DW's development only. with that said, we will probably get our butts whooped these next 2 weeks. If anybody honestly believes he's our best option at QB to win either if these gsmes might be a little delusional. Jope the kid ptoves me wrong andcwe do win the last 2. Gives hope for next year along with a glimmer of hope that Diaco pans out for us. What other real choice do we have right now...

I clearly saw something different in DWs first start what I saw was a ultra conservative play list that stifled his true talent. He beat out BS and the other QBs in practice running the same offense that we started the season with. So at a minimum we should have maintained that rhythm and added more play action to open the field up. I saw a Kid who actually read the defense went through his reads and held his composure in a very tough situation. That kid in no way convinced the entire coaching staff to put him in with a simple statement. He actually won the coaching staff over during the summer. He was stronger in the weight room than all off the QBs his arm was on par or slightly stronger and more importantly his leadership was evident in the locker room. He should have played a lot earlier in the season as the number 2 guy create packages for both BS and him to create confusion for the defense. More times are using a 2 QB system to perfection. DW is special and the future of our program. ESPN got it right when it was stated that the future is here.

But why would they play him if they aren't going to let him loose? How does that help?

The goal was not to get the kid hurt it is that simple. If you notice in the 2d half of the game the TEs were utilized more and we moved the ball slightly better. My understanding is that DWs left knee is still healing from a slight bruise but as he demonstrated he can still move. We should see more movement in Saturdays game moving the pocket receivers running comeback routes. Definitely a more pass friendly play book. We hae to remember the kid is 18yrs old on a huge stage the Temple game helped every one settle down and calm the waters.

This is pure speculation But as a side to the discussion of to burn or not to burn, the thought occurred to me that if I was DW father after watching arguably the worst offense in FBS this year and I got any inkling that my son was sitting behind BS in 2017, I would probably recommend that he finds a better program or at least go the JC route like Lagow did and who is currently the starting QB at Indiana. Forget about saving DW's Red Shirt, for all we know by naming DW the stater Diaco may have saved DW from leaving the program entirely. Again just a guess but it happened with Michael Nebrich, Richard Lagow and Kivon Taylor and if DW was not given the opportunity to start, given his talent and upside, it may have been Sayonara baby!

He ran 16 times.
He was sacked 5 times.
He fumbled twice.

How does that line up with a goal of not getting him hurt?

C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT QBR
Donovan Williams 12/21 69 3.3 0 0 25.3 - Yikes

Here is my take:
  • If we wanted to go with him - I would have preferred we went with him in August, or after we were ineligible to go to a bowl. If the coaching staff thought that BS couldn't get us there, why did we waste any time with him at all?
  • If we were going to go with him at some point, why didn't he get mop up duty against Houston? Why play Garrett Anderson there? Williams didn't get hurt until after the Houston game.
I'm not faulting Williams here - the whole thing just doesn't make much sense. We also learned that ruining Boyle's confidence by throwing him to the wolves might have ruined him. I don't know if Boyle ever was going to be any good, but if this kid gets slaughtered over the last 3 games - how do we know we didn't ruin him for the future? I'm not one of those "don't burn a redshirt because what about 2027 guys"...but if we are going to burn a redshirt should we do it for more than 3 games? And since there were only 3 games left, shouldn't we have just left him on the shelf?

Do we really think that this experience will do anything for him than wonder what the hell he is doing here surrounded by a bad football team?
