Same boat here thought it was over at that pointI went to sleep with 10 min to go. Houston looked like they couldn’t do anything. Final score makes me happy.
Honestly, this was the part of Puke winning it all that I would hate second most, after them tying us of courseThis makes me so happy if only for the fact we won’t have to read Jon Scheyer puff pieces proclaiming him the greatest coach since his predecessor.
He made a choice that he valued Coach hugs and frat boy love over Championship culture and NBA development. This shouldn't be a surprise.
I'd take the championship ring and elite coaching myself...but he will always have that "Duke Brotherhood" patch on his letterman jacket at the Duke reunions, so kudos to him.![]()
I'm legitimately shocked that weak foul was actually called on Duke in that spot. Didn't think I'd ever see the day.
Really a consequence of playing in the ACC. That Toy Poodle League didn't challenge them enough, and when Houston wouldn't quit like the rest of their league did, they had to keep expending energy to hold them off until finally the tank went empty. In a nutshell, the killers caught the posers.
It took a while, but Houston wore Duke down - with a few minutes left, Duke was walking everywhere. Flagg was toast - Houston took their legs, their souls and the game, in that order.
I was just going to bring up something about this I mentioned how rushed and rattled Duke looked in that last minute. After the FTs Houston had a TO left whike Duke did not, a lot of coaches would have taken it to set up their d, Sampson on though didn't take the TO. He knew he had them on the ropes they hadn't been in that situation and trusted his guys. He knew calling that TO would give Duke time to settle down and come up with something so he let it run and got exactly what he thought he would get something disjointed with a low probability of workingA key point being wildly overlooked here:
Duke had 3.7 seconds left to inbound the ball and get a shot off. They chose to heave it 3/4 length of the court into a crowd. With that amount of time you could easily inbound to someone near half court, take a few dribbles and get a Villanova/Jenkins 3pt shot off. Poor coaching by Scheyer there and throughout the last 10min of the game.
Tip my hat to Flagg and Kneuppel, those kids are ballers. Obviously ecstatic that Duke is out and Houston has a chance to get a chip for their biggest fan, Jim Nantz.
Fell asleep with Houston down 13. Woke up to a text from my son that Duke blew it. Rewatched what I missed this morning - How sweet it is!!I went to sleep with 10 min to go. Houston looked like they couldn’t do anything. Final score makes me happy.
Me too. I still haven't watched the last 10 minutes. It gives me uconn collapse vibes.I went to sleep with 10 min to go. Houston looked like they couldn’t do anything. Final score makes me happy.
Eh, in Duke's defense, if they went to half court Houston would foul. Jenkins was in a tie game. Duke would be in the 1-and-1. They essentially had no chance if they weren't able to get a play with an open player and no Houston player outside of foul range.A key point being wildly overlooked here:

Breeding didn’t called the foul.Our boy Breeding…
I agree that was a bad foul called on Cooper Flagg but I rationalized it with the bad call on the late game Houston turnover that was really Kon Knueppel kicking the ball out of bounds. Hope this provides a different perspective on the officiating and how it may - or may not - have impacted the outcome of the game. Dook had plenty of chances but simply withered.Houston can thank the ref who called a bogus foul on Cooper with 20 secs left, that led to Houston taking the lead. I mean Duke choked big time. But so did that ref.
