Three that come to my mind are "Places in the Heart", Hitchcock's "North By Northwest", and Martin Scorcese's great film "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore". I had never even heard of Alice Faye the singer until I saw ADLHA. Her singing during the opening credits which Scorcese brilliantly blended into the first dream like scene is entrancing. Have been a fan of hers, a long forgotten singer and actress, ever since.

I've always enjoyed the opening of Waking Ned Devine. Then again, I was a huge fan of that era of the Waterboys.

Saving Private Ryan, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Speed all come immediately to mind.

Others include Halloween, Inglorious Bastards, Reservoir Dogs, and most James Bond movies.

Probably my favorite all time film has a great one: Heat.

Some more: The Dark Knight, All the Indy's, There Will Be Blood, The Professional, about a million more that I'll have to think about later.

Heat and The Dark Knight are great calls.

I liked The Professional alot but dont recall the opening. Does he "hit" someone?

If your talking Hitchcock and great openings, I'd go with Vertigo.

With NBN I don't mean the opening scene, I actually mean the opening credits blending into the sides of the NYC skyscrapers, Hitch trying to get on a bus but door closes on him before he can get in, and most of all Bernard Hermann's opening music. The first scene in Vertigo is a classic.

Yes and no, after a brief convo with Danny Aiello's character to set him on his task it cuts to him infiltrating and taking out guys before giving a message to their boss.

For me, The Matrix. I knew it was on after that entry. And it didn't let down.

I’m not even joking that’s one of my favorite intros with each of the characters movie trailers. Hysterical.
Tug speedman saving the earth for a fifth time LOL
Isn’t the initial scene, them re-enacting the helicopter evac, a filming of that film’s trailer or something? I remember he British director guy, or maybe Stiller’s character, at some point being YES, THATS OUR TRAILER

I think it's the 4 fake trailers first. I remember seeing the movie in the theater the lights dim as if the movies about to start and then these other trailers start and I was confused - only to realize its part of the actual movie. Then the choppers through the Vietnam jungles to really start the movie....but maybe my memory is off.

Best I've seen on the big screen: The parkour scene in Casino Royale. On the edge of your seat excitement.
  • 2001 Space Odyssey
  • Trainspotting
  • Pulp Fiction
  • Fight Club
  • Lord of War bullet scene was cool
  • Darkhorse: Cliff Hanger. Holy f@#$ was that tense. Not a huge fan of heights though.
While I don't think it's the best, I really liked the opening scene to Dazed and Confused (Sweet Emotion). Perfectly sets up the movie.
