"We found ourselves," Drummond said. "That's what it boils down to. We know who we are as a team and what we have to do going forward."

Despite today's loss, I'm very excited about our chances in the NCAA's and can't wait for it to start. The Big East teams know us too well but the teams from other conferences have no idea of what they are about to face. I have a feeling that Drummond is about to go off in the tournament and the lob over the top is going to be a big part of our game plan.

I hope they figured it out, because I didn't. When we struggle offensively sometimes it seems like boat and shabazz don't get lamb and Drummond the ball. Today it seemed like lamb didn't want the ball at the end of the game and our offense was stagnant. There's no reason Drummond and Lamb shouldn't dominate throughout the entirety of games.

This is not a complaint about the refs, although it will be about the refs:

I think, like last year, the team will benefit from getting out of the BE style reffing. Lamb, Napier, and Oriakhi will, I think most benefit. BE allows a lot more physical play than any other conference other than the B10.

i think this team will be scary especially if they use the size and strength they have on the inside

This is likely going to be one of those years I lose the office pool. I find myself getting sucked in to picking this team further than they will probably go.

With this team, any post-season result is possible.

If the sleeping giant is in fact awake, I'm hoping the championship experience of the rest of the team will cause 6 teams headaches.

Do what I do.....put in 2 entries. I always have 1 with UCONN going all the way. :)

I agree entirely... All of this potential is there, and they have started to realize it... Plus we have Calhoun... So tempting to take them far... But really there is little to base that on, especially if they get a seasoned exceptional team in the second round.

But whatever I probably will anyway, I always believe we will win

We have soo much talent. All I want is a game where we play 40 minutes of what we're capable.
That's what has been frustrating about this team all year. They're a young team and have not yet figured out what it takes to play a 40 minute game. Hopefully, the team will stay intact and we will find out next year how good they can be.

I agree, the whole time they've been fading I've just been hoping they get into the tourney so they could get away from BE play and officiating. Now that they're in, I like their chances.

And hopefully we'll see them in the NCAA tournament next season.

The kid really has no idea what this even means. He is years, not days, from understanding it. Tremendously gifted physically, but mentally, emotionally and psychologically he is the functional equivalent of Baby Huey.

I know I've been a negative nancy all today.. but I feel good about the team. I do worry about the ability to make buckets but we shall see.

I've said this before. Given the precedent of the most recent appeal from some school (don't remember the name), I really think UConn will be able to participate. The question is this: does the delay make leave? I really think that Drummond and Lamb should come back next year, and think that there's a better chance than there should rationally be that Drummond does return. If he does, Bazz-Boat-Smith-Oriakhi-Drummond, with Calhoun-Daniels-Giffey-Olander off the bench, is a really really good team. If Lamb came back, even better.

we obviously have a ton of talent, but fit is almost as important as talent and is generally an underrated aspect of team strength. with only 3 guys who can create their own shot, and two big men who are both better as centers, its hard to come up with a rotation that is consistently strong on both offense and defense. still, im cautiously optimistic about the NCAAs

What we really need is a Larry Johnson type of player. Are there any recruits in that mold still available for 2012?

The school that won its appeal is the University of Lousiana-Monroe. They just went something like 3-26.

I love the optimism, but how exactly has the team found itself when it goes 7+ minutes without a field goal and is so dumb for 1/4 of the game? Yes, great energy and defensively, for the most part, we were very good. But I can't buy the idea that we now have an identity when our big scorer disappears/is ignored in the 2nd half and our offense becomes so stagnant and we revert to how we played (offensively) during our lowest points of the season.

The zone is the team's achilles. Syracuse has the best zone in the country. We had them beaten and barely lost to the more veteran squad. There isn't a team in the country that is going to pose as much of a problem defensively as Syracuse. If we can get through the first weekend, I could absolutely see a trip to the final four.

funster, my sentiment, exactly. this team has not had a run yet. if they win two in the tourney, i think the confidence from that will get them into the final four. this uconn team is as talented as most in the field. a few wins in the tourney will fix a lot of chemistry issues. and then there is calhoun...

Syracuse is 31-1 (that's just ridiculous given the strength of the BE). Give them some credit for the result of today's game. They had a little bit to do with it. I see Syracuse as similar to in the 90's when Ray Allen's team ran into UCLA or other year's when we ran into the wrong matchup in the NCAA tourney. They are just the worst match-up for us and we'll have success against other teams. I hope someone bumps them off or at least we get deep into the tourney before we meet them for the 4th time.

Drummond has size but he needs to get stronger, which along with new offensive moves takes him to the next level. I think he's right about the team being in good position. We played the #2 team to a standstill twice, and they were in doubt for a time. We deserve a 5 seed IMO. We won't get it but give me 19 teams that can play with the Cuse loke that.
