Don't forget that Gottlieb emphatically called for Roscoe to decommit when the Miles mess was in bloom. I could easily see his hope of helping to torpedo UConn's future as a secondary motivation for his praise for Bazz (although I do agree that Bazz has been undevalued by draft sites so far).

Not many PGs on this list have Napier's vision and ability to play at the other end of the floor. Lets not forget how great a defender he is. He's one of the best on the ball defenders in the country and has been since day 1. Makes him seriously valuable at the next level. He does things that NBA scouts are always looking for like the way he always keeps his head up to watch plays develop. Sounds basic but if you really watch Napier, more so than just about any college PG, he is always reading the defenses. He's consistently in the right spot on the floor and knows how to get people the ball at the right spots on the floor. He also has incredible stamina for someone with NBA size and body-type. He's significantly more NBA ready than say Marcus Williams was and he was a first round pick.

For starters, Shabazz is a likely candidate to potentially win the Big East player of the year. If that is completed, he is one of 6 UConn players to do so. I love Kemba just as much as the next guy, however, Kemba did NOT win this award. (Though I realize he should have in 2011 over that punk Ben Hansborough.)Also, Shabazz is on the nomination list for NCAA POY, and has 1 vote. Sure, Shabazz won't win the award this year, but if you look at it in more detail, he is the only player on that list that has a legitimate chance of returning. Players like Trey Burke, Anthony Bennett, Kelly Olynik, and Michael Carter-Williams will all be gone. If Shabazz were to win this award, he would be the ONLY UConn player to ever do so. That being said, if Shabazz stays, that would put him as the favorite to win Big East POY next year and potentially even the NCAA POY as well. In my opinion, he could certainly be first team pre-season all-american. Now in an ideal situation, Shabazz could win 2 Big East POY awards, and potentially a Naismith. While this may be a long shot, it is still a possibility. And if that is the case, Shabazz would be the greatest UConn player of all time, seeing as though he would even have a shot at a 2nd title for himself.

Fine, if Shabazz wins 2 BE POY and a National POY award, he's the greatest of all time. But the chances of that happening are effectively zero.

Ninth best PGs don't usually get drafted. He should come back, and if he makes another leap in his decision making, he'll have a shot a sticking to an NBA roster. Otherwise, it's overseas.

Did you read the other player's on the list? Gottlieb has him as 9th overall, not 9th PG.

I would agree Shabazz is a better passer than Boatright, but for this team Boatright is the point Bazz is the two. Bazz really struggled last year when giving the oppurtunity to be the point.
I see Bazz as a playmaking combo guard, in the NBA he probably could just play the point.
I dk what makes you think Bazz is a better shooter than Burke. Burke is shooting 48% from the floor and 38% from 3. Burke is a very good defender. I'm a big Burke fan think I would take him in the top ten.

How is bazz the 2 on this team ? If anything they share the 1 duties, shabazz sets up the offense much more. boat is in attack mode at all times those shooting guard qualities. As far as Burke, Napier has a better true shooting % and IMO has a better looking form. with that said Burke is only a sophomore. oh and if we had michigans pro wings Napier would average 10 assists a game

There was a story sometime after the NC State game that SN asked to handle more of the PG duties and KO obliged. Besides that story I think it shows itself during the games and it was immediately right after in the Harvard game when SN was dealing all over the place. I just see SN doing more to facilitate and get others involved, not saying Boat is bad in this area but I lean more towards SN being better at it in his Jr year compared to Boat as a soph. SN would average even more assists if guys could consistently knock down an open jumper.

He played most if not all last season with a broken foot that needed off season surgery. Minus that injury you would have this years SN without a co captain that sulked and tried to sabotage the team because he was unable to prove he was a better player than AD and couldn't accept that he wasn't. SN is worthy of an NBA pick as pg and will be back next season only if he wants to insure UConn continues to be a national player post JC.

I just think when both r in, Boatright is the guy bring the ball up the court and making the first pass into the offense. Like I said in my first post Bazz is the better and more willing passer he just does it from the 2 guard spot.

Bazz will get a look with some NBA teams, but still need to fight for a spot. Its risky, especially if the wrong team picks him (one with a plethora of guards). I don't think he's not good enough right now to get cut, and instantly make another roster in time for the season. Its like he'll get one shot.
However, with one more year of experience and some added offensive aggressiveness, along with one more year of Ollie tutelage, teams will be drooling for him. Especially as he gets pre/post season accolades and All American teams. I'm no expert, but I have seen quite a few Shabazz Napiers' declare one year too early, even here at UConn (e.g. Marcus and Khalid). He has the best counselor anyone can have on NBA readiness, which is his coach.

as for Doug Gottnothing, he also said Bucknell would beat us in the first round of the NCAA tournament in 2011 because UConn would be "too tired". Then he said the same thing for the Cinn game, then he picked SDSU & AZ and UK too

What is this "he's on nobody's draft board" talk ? Draft boards mean nothing usually past the top 3 picks. If somebody finds a gem that nobody is talking about, think they are going to go run to chad ford to start a hype machine? Anyway I'd love for him to come back next year to prove durability, it could also go the other way

Gem is hyperbole I'm talking about picks in the 18-30 range that turn into all stars or consistent starters. Chad ford isn't finding those prospects. Yes that does happen. So it's hard to use these "analysts" as the backbone of an argument. ford was salivating at Rafael arujo as a top 3 pick for god sake.

This draft is so bad, that if I'm Bazz I take a long look at going pro. Next year's draft has a lot of potential one and done talent. However I hope he stays.
