I could offer my wife 500k to backpack for a single day--pregnant or not--and she would laugh in my face. This is a woman who taps out of a backyard campfire after 25 minutes because of bugs.

We're spending a couplefew days in Dublin as a base for Newgrange and Glendalough. I think my wife scheduled tours of Trinity and Kilmainham Gaol in the city.

Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands, Dingle, Kenmare, Kilkenny is the rest of the trip IIRC. Spending 2-4 nights every stop.

Accommodations are stupid expensive in this country.

Wife's family has been going to Eastham for about 70 years. I've been going the past 45 or so. Too bad my FIL never bought.

My friend moved back down there again because his wife was called back to Walmart. It's no longer inexpensive and it's built up with all the creature comforts for high earners. Walmart brought back people to the office and they consolidated things in Bentonville. He's not happy about the move but the only change is he basically just drinks beers by his pool all day now instead of at Cubs games.

The mountain biking is supposed to be great.

Aquatic Brewery in Falmouth is good. The pizza at Bad Martha's is excellent, the beer is meh. Naukabout can be fun but also crowded. Barnstable Brewing is a nice spot. Cape Cod brewing is right of of Rt. 6 and has decent live music (Nikki and the Barn Boys are pretty good). Treehouse in Sandwich is awesome but limited parking and a haul from many places. I also like Quahog Republic dive bar in Falmouth.

Golfed there years back - stunned at how fast they play there. It’s walk and slap.

I do understand. Seems you are hitting the prime spots on the trip. Trinity is a bit meh other than the Library, but that's cool. Kilmainham is good. Newgrange is awesome as are all those things in the west. Highly recommend the Burren, including the perfumery for your wife and a sheep dog show (freaking amazing). Accommodations can get spendy in high season, and this is high season. We usually go in the fall.

CR is awesome - question is always do you do the lush Carribean side or the aired pacific. I did Nocera years back and it’s very cool. Howler monkeys and 3 foot iguanas, surfing and volcanic beaches. Experienced my first real earth quake.

Just know if you do the Cliffs of Moher, and they are amazing so I advocate for the drive West, the town nearby is touristy so best to stake out an actually decent restaurant or two.

All the rest of your stops are fantastic. Would just say in Dublin the Guinness tour is still fun and the old castle (forgot it's name) is a good way to explore a bit.

Dublin Castle might be what you're thinking of? I don't know if we'll end up there, I'm not much of a planner. I just go and listen to instructions.

Not really into brewery tours of any kind here or anywhere. She's knocked up and neither of us drink much to begin with. We are definitely going to the Dingle Distillery though. Want to get a few bottles as gifts.

We did a family trip to Ireland a few years ago. I have two suggestions I'd like to mention. While you are in the west part of Ireland make a reservation for a one hour walking tour at the Irish Falconry School at Ashford Castle. You will walk the grounds with a hawk (falcons are too large) on your arm. You will learn how to release and how to call them back and have them land on your arm. We had six of us and some were apprehensive at the start but by the end of the hourlong tour all of our family was very comfortable working with the hawks. I would also suggest arranging a trip to a working sheepdog farm. Probably easier to find on the west coast too. My wife is an excellent planner and when I looked at the itinerary those were the two stops that I thought I'd enjoy least and they turned to be my two favorite attractions on the trip.
 
Back down to FL with my Grandsons for their junior golf camp, Cape May for 2 weeks in August followed by a week in Vermont for a wedding

Did most of that trip last summer for my niece's wedding in Adare. Happy we missed the trip to Aran Islands as my brother in law and sister in law both lost lunch on the return - rough water! Enjoy the trip love the Irish

A fun distillery I visited last trip to Dublin is Pearse Lyons. It has an interesting history and is gorgeous. Built into an old church (St. James). The guy who founded it is a very interesting character. Came to the U.S. on gifted scientist visa. Definitely one of the more interesting distilleries in Ireland.

Leaving tomorrow (our last day of school) to drive my 06 Odyssey to Tarpon Springs, FL to give it to my mother-in-law (the van, that is). Asked a friend to join. Others heard, now we’ve got 4 in the van for a six day trip. No real plans, other than 1 hotel booked in Savannah and an invite to a friend’s place in Fort Meyers. Lots of setback, beers, food, and chilling. Can’t wait. Reliving those college road trips we did back in the early 90s.

Been on paternity leave the last couple of months. I need to escape NYC for a week or so before returning to office but the wife thinks is a bad idea.

Is it okay to drive out 2-3 hours away with a 10-week baby for a 4-day shore getaway? For the experienced folks - would you recommend it?

In my head I don't see the big deal as long as you bring everything the baby needs. But wife is making a big fuss about it.

Just depends on the kid and how ornery he/she is. My nephew flew 6 hours each way when he was 5 weeks old with no issue at all. His sister would've lost her mind at the same age. Probably still would. I traveled up to 24 hours at a time starting at 2 months old to get to East Africa multiple time a year without issue.

If you're driving with all the crap the little one needs a 2-3 hour drive is no big deal at all. Tell the missus to chill

Portugal is great, completely biased opinion since I have a house there. We were supposed to go this year but the kids convinced my wife we should go back to Aruba. So we will be going to Aruba in August.

Do it. My son and daughter had been to 5 countries before turning 5. We took my son to Europe at 3 months old and my daughter on long trips starting around that age too.

Not going anywhere because Chicago is great in the summer when it's not too humid. Off to a hot start though, 95 today and really humid. It's going to be 100 this weekend. Summer really isn't for me, I'm like Sean Miller on the sidelines.

I am in Chicago right now for work and today was hot. Went outside at lunch time for 10 minutes and was drenched in sweat.

Yes it’s fine but your wife knows it’s easier to care for a baby at home where she has all the things she could possibly need at her fingertips. This is a tough one because you both have valid concerns IMO, with you needing to get away.
 
Not doing much at all. Probably just hanging out by the pool and dealing with the Virginia heat.

Still having PTSD from a car accident and last week was the first time I drove more than an 1/2 hour away from my house since April 2024 except for 1 visit to an orthopedist (accident related).
 
Staycation until basketball seasons starts ... thinking about heading up for the Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz in late July, though - miss the Monday Night summer series back in the day (used to live on Asylum right up from the train station most of the 90s)
