Got Summer Plans?

Lake Norman, NC in August with the wife’s family for our annual family vacation. 25 people ranging from 5 to 55. Usually by the Tuesday after getting there on Saturday I’m ready to fake a serious illness to get out of there each year. Can only take the in-laws in small doses.

I have no idea what there is to do down there so if anyone lives in that area and has any recommendations feel free drop suggestions.

Green Mountain Music Festival in August. Might swing up to the Gloucester Blues Festival, too.

Our dog is ill. Probably our last summer with her so we're staying home.

Summer is the season where New England is the best place to be, so I tend not to go far. Lots of long weekend trips to Cape Cod.
I tried telling that to my in-laws when they booked a family cruise in the Caribbean in the armpit of mid-August.

But back to point, so many good free concerts in CT. We’ll spend a few days in the Outer Cape in July and we’ll host our niece from AZ for a week later this month after graduating from HS.

Tbilisi, Georgia to Baku, Azerbaijan to Batumi, Georgia.

And then some Cape Cod, Mass and Rhinebeck, NY mixed in.
And I'll go to the same part of the Cape either the week before or the week after Fishy does like we've done every summer for the last 20 years.

Ireland for 3 weeks leaving in a few days with a 6 months pregnant woman. She wanted to go to NAMIBIA but I was adamant we go to somewhere they speak English, have advanced healthcare and it's easy to get home from.

Charleston/Savannah later with family.

Backpacking in the Adirondacks for 5 days or so in August.

Saw that The Cape was mentioned a handful of times - where does everyone go? We have a cottage in Dennis, I spend most Fridays / Saturdays at the bar at Chapins - best restaurant around.
I went w/ my mom to Dennisport a few times as a teen. We stayed at the motel that was now recently renovated by Bluebird hotels. My wife and I tried that spot a few years ago, which was OK, but I've grown to love the Outer Cape. Last summer, we stayed in Eastham, but this year we'll be in North Truro. The plan was to leave yesterday, but some medical stuff popped up and we'll go in July, which worked out since the weather is trash this week.

Nothing planned. Older brother visiting end of July to mid August. Trip to Maine maybe. First year with no plans in forever. Boys are adults and things have changed. This year we’ll figure out what to do going forward.

We used to go to Dennis bayside near you (often stop at Chapins) or Brewster. I think Fishy is Brewster. Mostly I'm in North Falmouth now near Old Silver beach, but sometimes we are in South Yarmouth. Basically depends on who's house we are visiting or borrowing.

Aquatic Brewery in Falmouth is good. The pizza at Bad Martha's is excellent, the beer is meh. Naukabout can be fun but also crowded. Barnstable Brewing is a nice spot. Cape Cod brewing is right of of Rt. 6 and has decent live music (Nikki and the Barn Boys are pretty good). Treehouse in Sandwich is awesome but limited parking and a haul from many places. I also like Quahog Republic dive bar in Falmouth.

Assume the 8 months pregnant woman won't be backpacking in August. Three weeks in Ireland, would love to hear where. So many great spots west and north. Dublin has become meh.

Charleston/Savannah are my family trip locations as well, I don't even mention those anymore. Spending July 4th weekend down in that area seeing my parents. Maybe I will hit Hunting Island state park.

Yes.

And then he died. It was either Covid or listeria from bad roast beef at Arby’s.
LOL!

Not long on sympathy on this board...... of course if you eat Arby's you get what you deserve ;)

We live in northern New England so this is the time of year to stick around and do local stuff. Come Jan.-Feb. I'm ready to get out of dodge and get warm.

Thinking of giving Costa Rica a try. Anyone spend any time there?
