With 3 games left, will Welliver get any snaps?

If we are up by 30 or down by 30 he will get some in the final 2 minutes. Welliver is the best quarterback UConn has ever had and will be until he actually plays a game. You are not seeing him except in garbage time. Evers is the starter. His backup is Fagnano. Welliver is #3 on the depth chart. He was #4 until McDonald got hurt. He isn’t going into a game that is undecided unless the first 2 guys are unable to play.

Why would anyone get a reality check? We know what we are. We know what Evers is. I think we all know we probably lose to Cuse and we throw for 100yds. So what? Keep beating that horse. I’m going to enjoy the improved team and root for increasing success.

Well, he threw for 264 against Wake. So there’s that. Ran for 80 and a td vs FAU. So there’s that.

We throw for 75 yards against Georgia State? Why would we hit 100 against Syracuse. He may not even pass for 1200 yards this season.

I was VERY critical of this hire. I thought Sammis was a great O-line coach, but was unsure he had the makings of an OC and I was hoping they would bring someone else in from outside UConn. Luckily, I was wrong.

Is he perfect? No, but who is in there first year as an OC? I think hes been solid and can improve as a player caller. I also think its fair that we call agree that he is an upgrade over Charlton.

We won't if we get 6 .5yds per carry like we did last game. If we don't, I assume we'll throw the ball more than 16 times.

Think Mora has tried. brought in four highly rated HS Qbs all had little to no college experience.
Millen- Ran like a deer but had arm problems and couldn't throw.
Roberson -Went down with knee injury in his first game here and nobody really knows how greatly it affected his game. Turner-Went down with severe knee injury in summer prior to his senior year. Still played and was surrounded by a wealth of talent .
Evers-Being developed for future use playing largely a weak schedule enabling to still gain bowl eligibility. Don't know how the nagging injuries or concussion fears is affecting his game. Thought he was done for the season right after that hit he took from two Rice players at about the 5 minute mark in the 1st quarter.

For reasons it's been a never-ending search here for that guy. Our best Qb since Dan O, has been a former walk on from NCST.

QB is such a fickle position. Look at the NFL. Teams have all the resources and time to evaluate QB's and look how often they are wrong with top 5 picks.
Now imagine having fewer resources and projecting how HS QB's will mature at college.
Even the top 20 college programs whiff at a ridiculously high rate with 4-star and 5-star QB's.

I think the game plan for GA St was attack the run defense.
If we get 250+ yards of running against Syracuse, will be very happy.
I agree that we’ll likely need to be more effective at passing against Syracuse.

In general, it was one of Evers better games based on what he was asked to do.

There were two three and outs, one was on a drop of a very catchable ball. The offense scored 34 points and averaged 6 yards a play. The offense did its job. Would people feel better if the two drops didn’t happen and he was 12-16 for 110 yards? Sure, I guess, but most of the people complaining weren’t going to be satisfied unless UConn put up 300 yards passing, which wasn’t what was necessary (or possible with the personnel/gameplan choices made). The miss to Gathings was the most egregious mistake on the day. There was plenty of time to set his feet and make the throw, do people feel better if it was 11-16 for 106 and 2 scores with a 38-28 win (or even 13-16 for 135)?

Not every game has to be a referendum on the QB. UConn won and averaged 6 yards a play. The offense largely executed what was needed which in and of itself indicates that the premise of the thread… Gordon Sammis is in fact doing a good job.

Sammis largely shut him down after the run game was working. The last pass attempt that Nick Evers made was at the 1:55 mark in THE THIRD QUARTER!!!

The offense did what it needed to do and put 34 points on the board. The fact that this game is being used as the one to kill Evers is not only strange to me, it's just wrong...

They absolutely are, but those guys called out Bell in last 2 games - 1 for pulling up on a pass and for drops. Gaithings changes route while ball is in air and it’s the AB’s fault. The O line is adjusting to injuries on the fly. The kid needs a lot of work, but the issues on O are not his alone.

We are 6-3 in the first time in what 15 years. We are bowling. We have a fun team to watch. Why the constant beating the negativity drum.

And don’t say we’re beating bad teams. Ga State beat Vandy, rice beat navy. Maybe enjoy the moment. We’re not going to the playoffs, but this is the best team we’ve fielded in a long time. And we’re riding Nick, no matter how many posts you write.

But that’s just me. It’s more likely that Jim Mora knows nothing about football and hired an OC who knows less and intentionally is trying to undermine himself.

I agree with you. I think that way too. I could have been clearer. I was just pointing out that Sammis has been pretty good at designing an offens that plays to our strengths and that attacks the other teams’ weaknesses. We struggled to run against Wake so Evers threw for 265. When Fagnano played, he doesn’t run that well so we threw the football much more but still didn’t abandon the running game. If we can run for 250 yards, I like our chances against almost anyone. We threw when we needed to throw and were reasonably successful. On top of all that our offense scores points. We are 38 in scoring offense so far at 35 point/game. That certainly isn’t awful.

Most of the yards against Wake were garbage yards as Wake was basically letting him throw in the 4th.
