“… I preferred to talk to coach Calhoun in person,” Purvis said, “Because over the phone, I really couldn’t understand him. He’d ask me questions, and I just said, ‘yes, yes,’ but I didn’t know what he was asking?”

“UConn is known for its non-conference schedule,” Purvis said, “look at last year, playing Michigan State. Always on TV. It’s like Memphis, when [John] Calipari was there. Guys started going to the NBA, it didn’t matter what conference they were in.”

I like that. And this years ooc is insane so far IMO. Possibly Indiana at the garden, Maryland at Barclays and Florida at home?

I like that this year's offseason has a lot of optimism and excitement to it. Last year was tough knowing we had no post season. This year we have basically everybody coming back and talks of big time recruits for next year. I hate the off season but at least we should have something to talk about.

His work ethic and toughness in practice will make Bazz and Boat mentally stronger for sure.......and their games will improve as they will face a tougher defender in practice than they will in most games!!

All good:D

Agreed. Seems to be the only beat writer getting his butt up to Storrs consistently to write some interesting off season articles. This one, the one on Ricky Moore last week, the one on Daniels and Boatright 2 weeks ago, etc.

Most disappointed in Neil Ostrout of the JI. What a step down in coverage from Phil Chardis.

Amore has been providing the best coverage of the team since the 12-13 season began, evan traveled during the season to NY to cover Facey/Samuel while they played in a HS tourney.

Kid is a tremendous talent and with the addition of Hamilton wow! thats a nice start to the `14 class. If this program isnt a constant top seed in the tourney and challenging for national titles over the next decade id be shocked! This program isnt going anywhere and will be elite for the forseeable future. thank you jim calhoun.

Never thought about it but now I am amazed how we non-Boston fans never had that problem even though it was always there all these years. Took it for granted.

Well hopefully recruits keep that mindset about the AAC. I think this is the most fragile time for that aspect of recruiting now - the AAC is unknown and prime for crapping upon by outsiders and the schools stuck in it alike.

One thing we might have as an advantage for recruiting in the future is the fact the AAC has most of it's schools in urban settings. I think the kids would desire that over playing in boondock college towns all the time. Hello, Lubbock.
