Good news for Dook fans

Yeah, people were absolutely sleeping on Houston. They were the least talked about of all the number one seeds. They haven’t done anything relevant since the mid 80s/ always field good teams but no one gave them a chance against duke. I run a 300 person ncaa pool ever year and there were not many people picking Houston. Just cuz you’re a 1 seed doesn’t mean u can be slept on. I agree with Sampson

First thought after you somewhat miraculously win in part due to breakdown of other squad is go after their conference and lack of supposed respect for your #1 seed? LOL

And talking up your brethren in the Big 12? Give me a break, you just got there a couple of years ago when the presidents held their noses and invited you b/c the conference was dying.

For the record, I had Houston losing to us in the championship game.

For full transparency, I didn't have Auburn getting to the sweet sixteen of Duke getting to the elite eight, but still, I was correct on Houston.

Especially as a non call would have given Houston the opportunity to run the clock and hit a game winner.

He didn't go after the ACC. He was talking about the B12 not getting respect. The hype was the SEC and the BIG.

I liked Houston too. But I thought of them as a sneaky pick which I do agree is weird because they are a 1 seed but compared to all the 1’s and 2’s , they were not really a public popular team. Weird but I understand what Samson means Waaayyy more St. John’s picks in my pool than Houston.

Yeah I was at the game unfortunately. It was ugly but at least all i had to do was turnaround and sell my tickest to the Mich. St. fans behind me. LOL!
 
This was Duke's chance. Give us Flagg and we get at least this far.

I guess so but how is was the BIG 12 disrespected by a #1 Seed?

You could make the argument the Big East with our #8 seed was disrespected far worse than Houston IMO.

We should have beat the team they are facing tomorrow!

Thank you Jon Sheyer and Coach K and all the Dookies that made this happen for us. I’m pretty sure you will hold the record for biggest blown lead late in a Final Four game for quite some time. (A record which you previously held in 2004 but you managed to top tonight!!!!)

Awesome thread for those able to block out all memory of having already lost in the 2nd round.

I'm thrilled Duke lost. But I would have been even happier if UConn had made the Final Four, even if it would have meant losing ugly in the semis.

With all due respect I could not care less. An all-time Duke collapse is hilarious whether we win the title (04) or lose early.

I'm talking about the media and the BIG, SEC hype. Since when do they make the seeding?

Samson was probably as shocked with the Duke choke as anyone. Not sure he fully processed it before the interview. The players surrounding him and all the noise in the stadium didn't help. It's not like the academies where people have prepared speeches when they win. Still can't see how his statements bother you so much that you need to script write what he needed to say.

To be fair I thought most of the people handled that loss really well. I was surprised.

The thing is, outside of Duke, the ACC was a steaming pile of garbage this season yet nobody in the press says a word about it. If the current Big East had a somewhat similar season, the press would be falling over each other calling it a low major with one quality team. Hell, if the prior Big East (the one that put eleven schools in the dance two years before it was dismantled) had a season like that the press wouldn't stop talking about it, claiming it was a conference with a lot of overrated programs.

They weren't a very good team. They were a very talented team. They feasted on an historically bad ACC. Before the tourney they played maybe 6 good teams and lost to 3 or 4 of them.

It keeps our title advantage on them alive. And I don’t see next year’s Duke version being better than this year’s. When the dust settles after the portal activity, I think UConn’s team will be better. This takes the sting out of it a bit.

They didn't go undefeated in the ACC so at least one of their losses was to a bad team.

It definitely mattered that K was not on the floor to get Duke calls late in this game. Duke still had a FT advantage, of course, but it wasn't like normal in the NCAAT.

My daughter is in a graduate program at the university, and, just for her sake, I root for their psychology department.
