Good game UConn...

(Attacking his character does not make it anymore true so what's the point?).
That's all anyone can even try to use to criticize: how badly JC hurt their feelings on his way to 3 NCs.

We know how loved JC is. Just look at how devoted the alum are to continuing his vision and supporting the school. JC has more pros singing his praises than Cronin has pros period.

The best part about the American is we get our old whipping boy Memphis back. Nice to get another easy 2 wins on the schedule. Cronin coaches circles around Josh "ENERGY" Pastner.

What's up Bounce. Long time no see. But bro, there's a little problem with your comment and I just wanted to help you out a little...
See, we (Memphis) were 16-5 against you in the 80's
7-14 against you in the 90's (our worst decade in program history)
And 5-5 in the 2000's. Your win over us this year was the first since 2005.

That's 28-24 against you since 1980
Meaning we've beat you more that you've beat us
Not exactly your "whipping boy"
I'm guessing from your comment that you may be a little younger. Because it's apparent you missed the absolute drummings we put on you year after year in the 80's. Some got painful to watch. But anyways, this is a UCONN board. This thread is UCONN-Memphis, so let it be so.

I've been reading some of the Memphis message boards and with all due respect Uof Memphis, some of your buddies seem to be the biggest cry babies I have ever seen in my life. This thread is the biggest crock of bull http://csnbbs.com/thread-677374.html. This guy claims to be an ex D1 referee and I quote: "The reason UConn won today was because
Northeastern Team
TV market share
UConn has been struggling on the fringes of the the top 25 all year
Old Blue-Blood Big East vs. CUSA party-crashers
Conference tournament seeding
Look for ref ties to UConn (haven't looked but that DOES happen)
Coaches blackballing of refs (we don't have the pull that UConn does at this time.

and of course...wait for it: ESPN is located in CT

I was so tempted to log into the site and call bull , but I decided not to be a troll. Real simple why Memphis lost: 18 turnovers.
Hi bud. Tiger fan here. Please ignore what you read on that website haha. If you want an intellectual read, go to memphisroar.com

lol, There is nothing intellectual about memphisroar.com

We don't like to lose...

I imagine that similar to other fan bases Memphis has quality people and out and out s within their fan base. It comes with the territory if you appeal to a large group. All large groups have many elements.

I will readily admit that when the Squid ran your program I never would have pulled for you to win but since he left I had no ill will towards your team and now that we share a conference I want nothing more than to see you kick the living crap out of every non conference oppo0nent you face. In conference games I likely won't take a rooting interest unless one outcome has a distinct benefit for my school. That said, the only time that would be the case would be following something that we screwed up on as if we do what we should do, we won't need to worry about what other schools do in conference play.

With very few exceptions the Memphis fans I've come across over the years have been quality posters and I tip my hat to those (and also will add that you have a quality basketball program).

I read last night that this was the first time that you were swept in conference since 2001. That is one hell of an accomplishment!

Best of luck going forward and I wouldn't mind crossing paths two more times this season.

Two things people always forget to do when they bring up free throw disparity. One, it's to discount the purposeful fouling at the end of games (in this case, 8 free throws to UConn with 1+ minutes. Two, for every two shots at the free throw line, it's one less shot attempt.

Before Memphis began deliberately fouling, UConn had 28 FTs and there were 19 fouls against Memphis. 8 FTs for Memphis and 12 fouls against UConn. For the game, Memphis converted 66% of FTs which coincides precisely with season shooting %. Assuming for some reason that Memphis deserved as many fouls as UConn got, that another 7 fouls. Say all of them are shooting fouls, 2 shots at the line. That's 14 shots. At 66%, only 8 or 9 are converted. But then you also lose 7 shot attempts which you're converting at a rate of higher than 55%, so that's 7 or 8 points.

When you look at it this way, which you must, the disparity is minimized.

When you look at free throw disparities you simply must take into account end of game deliberate fouls and shooting percentages. Otherwise, you're getting a distorted picture.

If Memphis were shooting 80% from the line, and 40% from the field, the FT disparity would be huge. Heck, I'll go further than that. Memphis shot so well from 3 points yesterday. That even further minimizes the FT disparity.

Memphis had just gone 16-15, 17-12, 13-15, 15-16...and gone through 3 coaches in 5 years...Memphis was sitting on the brink.

Local HS coaches ran our program...we got a lot of "you want my five-star kid? You have to also take a couple two-star kids to get him" all these "package deals"

Cal came in and grabbed five-star kids from outside Memphis and got us rolling again...re-established Memphis as a power...and while I hate the way he left us on NCAA probation and took our recruits...he did what we asked him to do and stayed 9 years in Memphis.

If the free throw discrepancy and outcome were flipped, absolutely no doubt in my mind there would be 5+ threads ripping the refs as the cause of the loss. Fans are the same everywhere, we love to look for reasons why our team lost, regardless of reality and some fan bases just have more dummies than others.

I agree fully Walker but I will add (and I was there yesterday) that I saw something I never would have believed over the past two plus decades, a UConn team that constantly left the lane open for easy layups. If anything, it was a game where I wish we fouled more.

Give Memphis credit for running plays that allowed (after intelligent movement, a quality pass and excellent playmaking by the final ball handler) for their player to continually turn the corner into an open lane but in the days of the old (John Thompson, Rollie Massimino) BE, at one point (usually before the third easy lay-in) someone got hammered for no reason other than to say "don't expect it to be easy!".

I am guessing he has a ton of experience coming over to another team's board after a loss...
Spending your Saturday night trolling a uconn and Memphis discussion on a uconn fan board? Sweet life bro

The first time we lose to Memphis all of our amicability towards them is gonna evaporate. UofM is a great and intelligent poster but if we're gonna be the two tough teams in the conference going forward I don't see how it can't turn into a UConn/Georgetown Uconn/Pitt situation (I don't see the 'cuse feelings ever happening again). Eventually we might even hate them. Not if we keep beating them though.

They'll beat us a fair share. They get too much talent not to.

Remember, UofMemphis is one poster. I'd wager a lot of Memphis fans already hate us after two wins here. Some may still be annoyed we got the 1 seed in 2009 over them as well.

If we could create an atmosphere of rivalry in the AAC it can become a pretty good conference. It also helps our program.
So feel free to duke it out.
It's those ACC vs B1g guys going at each other like they rented the board for their exchanges that have worn me out.

Start off with saying congrats on a big win over the Tigers. I can't say as though I watched much of the game (family outings sometimes get in the way of enjoying a good basketball game). However, if you read the Memphis board, y'all stole one from us with the foul disparity. Don't know if that's the truth or typical fan reaction when your team loses. Married into the Tiger family, so not blinded by blue blood. Must say that it is enjoyable to see another teams fan base passionate about their team. Years in conference USA have had us begging for this kind of competition.

Close games with teams of history and talent such as between my Tigers and all of y'all's Huskies has the making of a solid foundation for a basketball conference. Ignore the hatred from the the blinded tiger fans. While everyone wants to be in the big money conference, the fact that we can be in a conference with teams that will constantly push us, will only mean good things for us and the conference as a whole. Here is to the beginning of a good rivalry.

Pas. Hope some of you can make it down to the Fed Ex Forum for what is shaping up to be an electric conference tournament.
