Good game for Adams

Did JC lack integrity when he would work the officials to earn a makeup call?

KO is going to (and probably has) cost us games by his unwillingness to earn us a favorable or even neutral whistle.

Seriously, the post you responded to is ridiculous. College basketball refs are much much more influenced by coaches than pros. I hate to say it, but they respond to fear and criticism. They are more affected by the home crowd. That is part of being less experienced/skilled referees.

That he got called for two carries was crap. Not because they weren't, they were but because we see it so much on every level and it rarely gets called.

You can literally call a carry on almost any play if you want to. Very similar to how NFL refs can throw a flag for holding if they so choose. The fact that they hit us with 3 in one game where they weren't dribble moves that helped our guy beat his defender to a spot was absolutely ridiculous.

As for Jalen, he looks like a very talented kid, and plays like a talented kid. I am thrilled that we have him and I'm very happy we have Gibbs so that Jalen isn't our sole option at PG.

If we are going to be literal, the first half cost us a 16 point deficit. The technical all but eliminated any chance to win after fighting back to a 1 possession game. Now, I actually don't blame KO for the loss but if we are going to be silly and talk about how KO works/doesn't work the refs and how that may cost us a game, the Maryland game was it.

It was DHam actually and 2 with Jalen. And I agree, 3 in one game in this day and age is crazy. Did they see Ibeh one time receive the ball above the top of the key and take 2 1/2 steps before he stopped, then change pivot feet when he handed it off thereafter? They let so many things go that should be called all game so calls like this are way too picky - one on Jalen was really a bad carry though.

You don't agree he should work them a bit harder? I mean that tub Cleare came in and just literally ran into people, went over their backs, pushed people from behind on rebounds. Watch the game, you have to see it from the side and he needs to get in their ear. Not always necessarily in a negative manner but a "reminder" of what they are missing at least. Shaka was working them quite often while also keeping the relationship with some smiles and laughs. That's how Ko should be working it. The occasional "throwing a JC" doesn't hurt either.

Agreed. I also think RP gets kind of 'ignored', not egregiously so, but enough. As I said above, RP is our best 'all around' player imo.

The offense looked pretty putrid last night and Rodney made some big plays to effectively win the game for them. Those shots around the rim are unorthodox but he makes them, and the step back three was huge. He doesn't get nearly enough credit for his development - that pass to Adams for the reverse would not have been made last year, and he seems to see the court so much better than he did last year.

And I couldn't see how egregious the carries were but I would imagine we've gone several seasons without a single carry being called, so three in one game is a joke. I genuinely don't know the extent to which it matters but I would like to see Kevin a bit more vocal on some of these horse____ calls throughout the game and not just when he gets T'd up in the last minute.

That was a great look to Adams cutting the baseline - good call. These are things that weren't join the table last year I agree.

I believe KOs sideline demeanor is perfectly fine and has no real impact on the outcome of any game. I also believe the difference may be home vs away and I am certain UConn gets some make up calls in Storrs. I do agree that Texas got the benefit of a lot of calls last night.

Agree about KO not letting frustration with calls build until there is an explosion resulting in a T. Better to yap a bit all game than that to happen. I remember JC clapping and smiling like hell at stupid calls later in the game to make his point. Adams was trying to make plays last night without being bashful. No Brimah, everyone is trying to pull the wagon. Could be a positive development.

I generally agree with this. To the extent an official is going to lean one way or another it's generally in the direction of the home team, and I think the statistics bear that out. But when you watch Huggins eat an official and then WVU gets a great whistle for the rest of a half it makes you think.

Yeah, it's both. Generally, the home team gets the better whistle, but the coach's engagement with the officials is another key factor. I don't recall at all during JC's tenure feeling like we were getting a raw deal nearly as much as under KO.

When we were, Calhoun blew his stack, got a T, and the problem was usually solved right quick.

I think he is by far the most talented athletically. The fact that he is a very good defensive player and usually hustles adds a lot of weight. A few years ago (can't remember if it was under JC but I think so) the team was having an awful time with free throws. Some one was brought in to work with them I believe and it turned around from that point on. This year team is 72% and he is the only regular having a big problem. A lot of time it seems to be in the head because with form and lots of practice it should be muscle memory. Have to find a way to "change the way I think about it" or maybe just stop thinking and shoot. As someone else posted on the board recently, there were games last year where he shot free throws very well. I think he has the willingness and ability to make free throws. He can overcome this too and if he does.................watch out......he could become unstopable . I thought the comment by Jalen was insightful; " your the best player on the floor" (knowing your identity/ have faith) instead of negative thinking. Truly wish him the best. He seems to be a great teammate and helps a lot with the recruits from what I have read on here.

Agree about those shots. It always looks like he loses control of the ball on his way but somehow the shots go in. Rodney has been really good this year and is a much better shooter than I thought he'd be

Have to agree with this for sure. Still need to be in their ear letting them know you're watching what is evolving, the calls will come. I mean JC proved it before he was a Husky coach at the Colonial Classic for Northeastern. He was getting homed and didn't take it anymore about 6 minutes into he first half, threw his jacket off got his T and Dom Perno and UConn didn't get a call the rest of the half. Northeastern upset the Huskies.
