Great news.

Geno starts Paige, Kaitlyn, Ash, Sarah and Ice. Azzi comes off the bench.

Does Geno go 4 guards and Sarah? That depends on the flow of the game.
I don’t know that you’d want Sarah guarding Iriafen

I do not know how to cut and paste an X accounts post onto this B.Y. thread. But an X post from the Hartford Courant's Emily Adams quoted Auriemma as saying, "The word is questionable. Probable, doubtful?” “I’m saying there’s a chance, yeah. I know she wants to play.” when asked about Fudd's availability for tomorrow's game against JuJu Watkins and the USC Trojans.

Daniel Connolly, who may have been present at the same face to face interview with Auriemma, indicates that the word is 'doable'. I like the sounds of that word much more than doubtful! They have different meanings for certain.

Is this just a situation of mishearing what was said? Auriemma and the various players conduct these interviews at the gym, really right outside of the gym doors, where there is all kind of background noise and horrible acoustics.

Geez, this could go on indefinitely with all these "quotes"!

You can hear the interview here. I think Connelly put a very optimistic spin on it.

Thank You Vowelguy, zoom forward to 3:15 mark and you can hear this exact line of questioning, and it was not a misheard word at all.

Another thing he said in answering the Azzi question is, "There is a chance, yes, so I am saying there is a chance ... doing my best Jim Carey imitation."

Does anyone remember that movie quote? Dumb and Dumber, Llyod asking Mary what the chances are that the two of them ... and her response, "Not good". Lloyd furthering the question, "So like not good, as in 1 in a 100?" "No, I'd say is that it's more like 1 in a million."

"SO YOU'RE SAYING I HAVE A CHANCE!"

Marshall is USC’s 6’5” center who will match up with Ice/Jana. Iriafen will match up with Ice.
Time for another venture into Hartley units. USC lists Marshall as 6’4”. I think she probably a big 6’3” approaching 6’4”. I say she’s a “big 6’4”” because she has broad shoulders and long arms. This is part of why she’s a pretty good shot blocker. She’s probably a bit higher than Ice and Kiki and a little smaller than Jana.

Let's see: She wants to play. There's a chance that she might play. Then again she might not play. It's doable. If she does play the consensus is she will most likely not start.

Wow. It's bone picking time on the Boneyard.

All I say is I hope all is 100% ready and healthy with Azzi because I want to see her fulfill what she came to UConn to do uninterrupted. She deserves nothing less.

The comments about Yanna were really interesting too. He talked about the 5-6 days when she could fully practice and how incredibly impactful she was. Also said she’ll be fully healed in six months. Sounds like we’ve got another really good contributor for next season.

I would think if she does play it will be limited minutes. I’m really surprised it’s even being considered. I’d guess she wouldn’t start and maybe plays 12 to 15 min at most.

Geno was very clear, as he usually is, in answering the question. He searched for the official word that would be put out in the pre-game release. Looking to his PR rep off-camera right, he said "What's the word . . . 'questionable?' 'probable?' 'doubtful?'" Then he settled on "doable," adding that "there is a chance" and "she wants to play." I'd say that assessment is encouraging.

I also found his praise for Yanna to be genuine.

‘Doable’ means entertaining the possibility. ‘Questionable’ and ‘doubtful’ each argues against the possibility.

The pregsme interview with GENO, I believe, answers that question.
In my hearing the "Doable" was the word choice that GENO felt
most comfortable with... watch the interview and see what you think.

So if she plays, does Geno go with 4 guards and Sarah or 3 guards, Sarah, and Ice or Jana?
UConn wins this game comfortably unless they think they can play with 4 guards. USC is way too big for that approach and it takes away the advantages UConn has on them. They need to do less with guards, not more unless you consider Sarah a guard. With her I like 3, without her I like Paige and Azzi along with two taller players to limit the inside game.

The game the other night might give people false hope that they are a great 3pt shooting team but if they live by that approach they will most certainly die by it as well. They need to count on the big three on the perimeter to score and let Jana and Ice work the inside.

I don't see USC as a particularly great coached team so I think Geno will have is way in this one.

Yes, thank you, I saw that video and commented in #16.

After watching that interview it appeared to me he was attempting a tongue in cheek reply, more or less indicating that there is a 'One in a Million Chance' that he will play Azzi on Saturday. Same chances that Lloyd Christmas had with Mary Swanson!

We have a game nine days from now, Dec 29th, at the XL Center against the Friars. When we get around to that game, I think our odds of seeing Azzi as well as Aubrey will be much better than 1 : 1,000,000!

Regardless of no Azzi, I still have the Huskies over the Trojans by a dozen!

Merry Christmas all! I'm off to the airport (this should be delightful)...
