I don't like where this is going and personally enjoyed the Cinderellas such as St. Peters, Yale and Farleigh Dickinson pick off top teams. That ain't happening anymore. But...if it's gonna be the schools with the biggest bags in the short term, then I'm happy we're in the game.
We need some regulation...SOME.

Now that the power/money schools will dominate the tourney how long before they want a bigger piece of the Men’s tournament.which helps us. Doubling the pot will be a good start and doesn’t make a dent in their profits. . It does make all multi bid conference a lot more money. It also increases the value of BB vs Football
A FF will earn a conference $3,333,000 a year or almost $20,000,000 total over the 6 year period .
If that happens the P conferences will be adding top basketball schools.
Thats without expansion of the tournament or reduction of D1 conferences from 32 to 20 both possible decisions that increase revenue of power conferences

Yes, I suppose you are right that a very relevant data point is what it might cost UConn to replace AK with similarly experienced player, an upperclassman that with a high-program stat line of 12+ppg and Alex's other #s might indeed cost $3M?!

And given AK's veteran presence on the court in the locker room, knowledge of system and ability to make others better he may be worth more to UConn than his pure talent or per game #s imply.

I guess where that breaks down is if UConn's total $ amount is say $15M it is tough to devote $3M to AK. Yet even if it is say $1M too high it'd still be a better return on investment than say ANY of last year's freshman NIL's provided. Ultimately a win some lose some perspective might be best until or if/when a system and caps/allocation becomes the new norm.

This includes (but is not exclusive to) Auburn, Connecticut, Florida, Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, Miami, Purdue, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, USC, Villanova, Virginia and still a few more trying to get there in the coming week(s). In talking to sources at these schools, even if most aren't at $10 million, there are still a couple in this lot that told me they could get there if absolutely necessary. It seems pretty well known that he is at his best when he's not the alpha and focal point of the offense and can play within the system. Assuming he even further improves his game, I'm excited to see what senior year AK can bring.

Some quick thoughts...

I always thought 3 million would be the number. The replacement cost was going to be between 2-3 million for anyone close to Alex and to a degree, he didn't really get paid for winning the first two championships so there was going to be some residual money included there as well.

I also think some of the delay was simply making sure the benefactors bankrolling his salary were indeed lined up.

Finally, I have a feeling the 8-10 million budget that Norlander referred to was stretched to accommodate Alex.

In the end, Alex and UConn nation wins.

AK playing in his appropriate position offensively will hopefully help him surge back to a player+ that he was. He’ll be most effective when he has two penetrators on the floor. It won’t be with Stew and Solo on the floor together.

I’d expect to see the 1-3 when he’s out there being assortments of:

Mullins
Solo
Silas

Stew
Malachi
Silas

The Solo, Stew, AK grouping revisits what we were last year. Slow footed off ball shooters, easy to guard.

But with McNeeley and Diarra healthy it was a top 5-15 offense (hard to gauge exactly but it was somewhere in there). So it was not "easy to guard." It was just easier than the championship teams. I'm not worried at all about the offense.

The defense I agree on though. Hopefully Demary/Smith at least defend the POA and Ball/Stewart improve. Not much else you can hope for there.

Probably top 5. You can see the effect on Torvik's page. Duke had the #1 offense with an efficiency of 130.6. Uconn's 5 game average was at 129 when McNeeley went down and was down to 112 before it started to pick back up again at the end of February. And that wasn't even caused by McNeeley's offensive efficiency, because he wasn't particularly efficient.

Agree about protecting Reed. Ultimately toughness on the glass and defense decides a lot. You are suggesting someone to play alongside Reed, if that is the case who loses minutes?

But when was the last time a team went the whole season of healthy, productive and out of foul trouble.
Long story short..... they won't play 10 minutes every game but we want someone who can play 10 productive minutes when it's next man up time.

Of course, but the point is that's a really hard sell to a transfer. Saying you're not gonna play most games but if we have injuries or we get into foul trouble you'll get a few minutes is not appealing. There's a reason it was Youssouf Singare in that role the past 2 years
