Per Borges...

Don't expect a big crowd at Hofheinz Pavilion: Houston is averaging just 2,904 per game in the 8,000-or-so seat arena, with a season-high of 3,123. And an 8 p.m. New Year's Eve game isn't likely to attract a whole lot more fans.

Is this going to be the first UConn game in decades with < 2,000 people in attendance? Not counting the island tournament we played in a hotel ball room a few years ago.

More die-hard fans, when's the last time we had such a small crowd? I think we played at Rice in 2004 around NYE but IIRC the place was pretty full since we were #1 in the country (obviously).

A few K more because of Husky fans and the fact they are playing UConn, that should bring some casual fans to the arena…….probably 5-6K?

Then we should find out how much of a draw UConn BB is. Given it's NYE, it should be very interesting.

Does UH only sell walk up tickets? Do they not share ticket sale counts prior to games? Is the Horde to lazy to check?

I checked their website and let's just say there are plenty of seats available. And with school not in session I'm not even sure there will be lots of students. But this is something UConn just needs to get used to since it is the rule, not the exception in the AAC.

really some of these schools ought to play in smaller venues. 2900 in a 3500 seat gym can be much better atmosphere than 2900 in an 8-10,000 seat arena. When and if the programs merit it, play in the larger facilities. UConn, Memphis, Cincinatti, Temple and maybe Central Florida are really the only ones who draw more than flies to home basketball games.

From Amore:

If you’re wondering, AAC home attendance:
1. Louisville, 20,700;
2. Memphis 15,593;
3. UConn, 9,493;
4. Temple, 6,530;
5. Cincinnati, 6,223;
6. Central Florida, 4,988;
7. South Florida, 4,180;
8. Rutgers, 3,438;
9. SMU, 3,366;
10. Houston, 2,904.

East Carolina is averaging around 4,300, Tulane is around 1,830 :)eek:), and Tulsa is around 4680.

I don't care if there's three people there. I will be on the couch, television primed and ready, beer in hand, and ready to rock. My hand may, or may not, be strategically placed depending on who else is around

And apparently no press today in the Houston rags. No one will know Shabazz is in town.

LOL to John, poor slob with no where to go tonight.

Lol. Well, I have somewhere to go but his night sounds great to me. I am trying to get my wife to cancel our plans and let me follow John's agenda. Just hoping I get her hand strategically placed rather than my own at some point.

My daughter age 24 and Ucomn class '10 took a job with Shell in Houston in Feb '11. We weren't playing real well quite yet but we both saw FF in Houston and hoped. Well what a welcome for her to Houston. She went and even sat with the students. She will be there tonight and recruited 3 friends. So proud.
PS. She always went to the XL and Campus games!

Daniels is pillow soft. Happy new year getting spanked in Texas. Take them to the Alamo KO prior to SMU. Those folks fought hard

I think the official numbers came out at like 4k and change. Are we the only school that releases accurate attendance stats?
