Gillespie and Samuels returning to Nova | The Boneyard

Gillespie and Samuels returning to Nova

Some really good teams at the top of the league....

Creighton have a solid recruiting class. Zegarowski could come back too?

Seton Hall absolutely loaded up it seemed, but we’ll see how the new pieces fit together.

Villanova will likely be top 10 in the country, maybe top 5. Maybe top 3. They have a high end recruiting class to go along with their returning guys. Hopefully Gillespie can get back to full health. They’re legitimate title contenders.

Marquette and Xavier will be interesting. Particularly Shaka’s squad. Should have Carton and Garcia back. Those dudes can really ball. Garcia is an animal. Sounds like he’s testing the draft waters but he’ll probably do one more season I’d imagine.

Oh yeah and that team from Storrs could have one of the best front courts in the country and has a top 10-15 recruiting class coming in.

I don’t think it makes a lot of sense for some of these guys like Gillespie to come back and play a 5th year in college. He’s never making the NBA. That’s 1 year less of an overseas career / earnings he’s jeopardizing by coming back.

Maybe he doesn’t plan to play beyond college and he wants to return to make a run at a National Championship because he got injured in the BET this season.

Maybe he’s actually taking advantage of a free education

Most of these guys will make more money using their masters degree than collecting 70k a year in Europe in a country where they know no one, and dont speak the language. Playing pro overseas isnt glamorous like the NBA

Or, one year paid for towards a master's.

Still better than doing the hostel thing as a disillusioned college grad not ready or prepared for the work force.

You have to really go deep in to Europe to find a place where English is completely unspoken.

Is it the high life of NBA ball? No. But check out some of the G League cities. I guarantee you European prospects aren't drooling at the thought of coming to America to live in Stockton, Erie or Fort Wayne and ride on buses.

Will be interesting to see how he recovers from his season-ending MCL injury. Not sure the extent of it and/or if he had surgery, as well as the expected timeline for recovery, but it happened later in the season than Polley's.

Polley also tore is ACL. I believe if it was just his MCL the recovery period is much shorter.

Use his degree. Very valuable. Pro career could be short

If it’s an MCL not nearly as bad as an ACL. so his recovery should be faster

it’s really a no brainer for him to come back. He’s got to prove he’s healthy even if he wants to play in Europe. Plus he gets a masters from a very good school.

I was waiting for someone to bring up Bouknight. Amazing that it even has to be said, but the calculus is a bit different for a lottery pick than it is for two kids are looking at second round to undrafted.
Perhaps.....but I understand your point of view....it all depends on how it works out in the long run:

That’s my point. His pro career could be very short so take the money while it’s there. You can ALWAYS come back after ur basketball career and get a masters. What other job can he do where he can make 7 figures? Makes no sense to not take the money when it’s there.

It makes perfect sense to him, nobody cares it doesn't make sense to some guy who calls himself UncleSpliff on a message board and never played big time basketball.

Sorry I didn’t realize I was in the company of a bigtime stud D1 athlete. Remind me to take a bow... clown

I think Jay Wright knows what's better for Gillespie than anyone here.

But he can keep improving if he's stays in college not getting paid a dime! He'll never improve in the league with 24/7/365 coaching. No one ever improves once they leave college.

You think he just might be a little bit biased considering they have no other point guard on the team other than Archidiacano’s little brother??

The notion that Jay Wright convinced Gillespie to come back purely for selfish reasons is certainly an interesting take. I can pretty definitely say that that is not the case. I’m sure all options were on the table for him
