That's because we have a HOF coach who has put a ton of guys into the league. They could practice outside on blacktop and he could still get recruits to come to UConn. He won't be here in three years and the new coach most likely won't have the same chops to fall back on - a practice facility and a stable conference are must haves for whoever is next.

So lets stop calling it a "practice facility" and lets call it what it really is ..... a players palace or recreation center. We need a rec center to spoil our players. Ironically it would probably just make them soft. Calhoun used to take the players over to the field house for practice because he thought it would toughen them up.

There's some truth in your statement. It's probably overboard to call it spoiling the players. It's more giving them every advantage you can in order to conitue to excel. There are advanatages to be gained from a great facility. The 'palace' concept is also necessary to a degree. The alternative is to decide mediocrity is acceptable and that's exactly where we'll end up.

Besides, there's no reason that the Mecca of College Basketball shouldn't have a palace!

No we haven't needed a basketball facility, because we have had a hall of fame coach who has been able to get things done with his drive and talent, but top shelf 17 year old recruits will be swayed by the glamour of other program's Taj Majals, and that can be a recruit's deciding factor. After seeing WVU I understand the concern about excess, but we have to have this to stay competitive. Wish it weren't so.

Exactly, two of the best men's and women's teams in the nation shouldn't have to worry about who has the one and only practice court at a particular time of day.
