Some thoughts on the Georgetown game;
- The Hoyas came to play today, and UConn’s defense at the start of the game was less than stellar, particularly defending the arc. Frankly, I am delighted that the Huskies were finally challenged by a conference opponent, at least for a half. UConn needs to get used to playing tough games on the road.
- KK frequently provides a defensive spark for UConn off the bench. Today, she also provided some instant and much needed offense. FYI, KK is shooting 100% from the arc over her last 3 games. Whoever else is in the lineup, UConn plays better with KK on the court.
- Azzi finally playing a game in her home town delivered another very solid all-around game for UConn. My one complaint, and Geno’s too, is that the Huskies need to find her more shots in the offense, particularly in Paige’s absence. In the 2nd half they ran some actions to get Azzi several good looks from the arc and she did mostly what Azzi does.
- Geno is committed to letting Jana figure things out as the starting post, and that’s a good thing. When he subs in for her, he goes with a small lineup, either with Morgan or Sarah at the 5. I assume that Ice is ill?
- UConn tightened the noose on defense in the 2nd half and gradually broke open what was a close game.
- Solid efforts again by both Ashlynn & Sarah
- Some really good PT from Morgan off the bench, who appears to be our backup center.
- I felt a little bad for Georgetown today, who was playing at home before a packed crowd of mostly UConn fans, all of whom were friends and family of Azzi.....
- OK, UConn has proven they can play without their superstar. But I’m sure we would all like to see Paige back in the lineup next Wednesday at St John’s.
