Geno X’s and O’s, the 2003 team

The '03 and '04 Championship teams have to be the two least likely UConn championship teams on paper; thus, two of Geno's greatest coaching jobs. There were NO other AA on either team aside from DT (not even an HM). Everyone just played their roles well and I can't say enough about the job that Jessica Moore did in the post. She was the least accomplished (accolades wise) of all the post players on any of the championship teams, yet she was a glue player who not only was steady but rose up to play well against some great competition, including Tenn twice in the championship game. I don't think MM, Tina, or Stewie would win with that roster the way DT did. Those two teams are why I say DT is the greatest winner in UConn history (with all due respect to 4-peat Stewie and while MM is still my GOAT).

In 2003, they were really lucky to get by a great Texas team in the semis. That bullet pass by Diana from the top of the key to a player under the basket stands out. The 03 and 04 championships were very unexpected after graduating the best starting line up in NCAA history. (four Huskies chosen in the first six picks in the WNBA draft).

Possibly my all-time favorite UConn play. I think the player was Wilnet (sp?) Crockett. Scintillating.

The best starting lineup ever in 2002 gobbled up so many minutes and especially all the crunch time minutes that the 2003 starters and backups were totally untested except for Diana. I still marvel at them winning the title that year.

Diana willed the team to those last two championships. That's not to say that the other players aren't the team we're not solid players, but when we needed a basket, Diana would go and get it for us. There's a reason why people call her the GOAT.
