Silly conversation. Dawn is a good coach. Geno is the best WCBB coach in history. His record is unassailable. One game, or a dozen games, won’t change that fact.
South Carolina played a wonderful game against UConn and deserved to win. Right now they are ahead of us in their overall team refinement..... we will get better I am sure.Dawn is the future.Geno will not win another title. He can’t get the recruits Dawn gets.
It wasn't that many years ago all the talking heads were saying that Muffet "had Geno's number" after winning six of eight games between the two. Of course that was when UConn and ND were playing 4 times a year so it was only a two year sample. "Got his number" didn't last and ND is hardly in the national conversation anymore. So anointed successor or flash in the pan? Maybe we should wait just a tad longer before declaring anyone anything. The only year A'ja had enough talent around her to beat UCONN was her Junior year. SC lost by 11 at UCONN. Her senior year the talent level dropped significantly. It was even worse the year after she left. Then we got the number #1 recruiting class to go along with a few good players that did not transfer out. We are now 2-1 against UCONN and the two wins were not even close. The talent level is now equal and we will see how it turns out over the next few years.
One player is not going to do that. UCONN had a full slate of great players and one great players against many great players is not something that will propel you......nice try though.I disagree with one particular season. Gabby & Kia Nurse junior season, USC was supposed to beat UConn. They had two true post players along with 3 good guards compared to our undersized post players. On paper, that should’ve been a win for Dawn but in reality, it wasn’t. So I won’t quite say that she didn’t have the player(s) to match Geno. But if you want to talk in the singular term, A’ja Wilson was “the player” that was supposed to propel USC past UConn but she went 0-4 ♂️
Can't argue that statement.Silly conversation. Dawn is a good coach. Geno is the best WCBB coach in history. His record is unassailable. One game, or a dozen games, won’t change that fact.
She swept the POY awards and was the #1 pick in the WNBA draft. Her final collegiate game was an elite 8 game against UConn and SC lost by 29 points. That’s ridiculous. The only year A'ja had enough talent around her to beat UCONN was her Junior year. SC lost by 11 at UCONN. Her senior year the talent level dropped significantly. I never made any declarations. I pointed out facts and said let us see how it turns out.It wasn't that many years ago all the talking heads were saying that Muffet "had Geno's number" after winning six of eight games between the two. Did she commit to USC or SC ?But he doesn’t go after a lot of the same girls that Dawn goes after ♂️. We just got one kid who verbally committed to USC but signed with UConn last week.
A'ja had about 30 points in that game. She was going up against a team that was loaded with McDonald's All American. Getting to the elite 8 was the ceiling for that particular team. No one expected that team to beat UCONN.She swept the POY awards and was the #1 pick in the WNBA draft. Her final collegiate game was an elite 8 game against UConn and SC lost by 29 points. NeitherDid she commit to USC or SC ?
No argument there, but Dawn is only, seemingly, getting better as a coach--and stronger and more compelling as a recruiter. I am a staunch UConn WBB fan, but truth will out.Dawn has a significant losing record to Geno. The reaching some of ya’ll do around here…
No, you didn't (make declarations, that is). My post was about the thread in general. You just happened to be in the crosshairs when I made it. No offense, didn't mean to single you out.I never made any declarations. I pointed out facts and said let us see how it turns out.
The team that lost Coates, Davis and Gray to bring in Jennings, Cliney and a freshman Bianca Jackson into the starting lineup was doomed from the start. Once Cuevas medically redshirted that year and Lindsey Spann went down for the year with injuries even the elite eight seemed like a pipe dream for that squad.A'ja had about 30 points in that game. She was going up against a team that was loaded with McDonald's All American. Getting to the elite 8 was the ceiling for that particular team. No one expected that team to beat UCONN.
Wilson was nowhere near the level that DT or Stewart were. Bad comparison IMO. The level of talent SC has now is much better than it was during Wilson's era.South Carolina played a wonderful game against UConn and deserved to win. Right now they are ahead of us in their overall team refinement..... we will get better I am sure.
On your statement here.... I think that you may just be throwing red meat for a reaction.
With Dawn... she is a good coach yes. And she has been getting good recruits yes. But look at some of the facts.... She has been coaching 20 years. She has one national championship. 5 years ago she had some great recruits just like now. Aja Wilson was a transcendant player. She won 1 title at SC. Much like Griner at Baylor or Ewing at Georgetown. A super blue chip recruit .... 4 years and 1 title to show for it. Taurasi had 3. Stewie had 4.
The great teams and the great coaches win titles. When is anybody going to win 11 natties again? Mulkey and Tara have 3 each. Dawn has 1. And I wouldn't shut the door on Geno and Chris getting 12, 13, and up. Too early to shut the door on them.
UCONN was loaded with collegiate All Americans...they had KLS/Collier/Williams who each won multiple AA honors, the national DPOY in Nurse, future WNBA ROY in Crystal Dangerfield and brought in Stevens off the bench. No one ever expected SC to repeat or even contend for a repeat title with the roster they had.A'ja had about 30 points in that game. She was going up against a team that was loaded with McDonald's All American. Getting to the elite 8 was the ceiling for that particular team. No one expected that team to beat UCONN.
Ya that is fair and i agree with you..... having said that.... people have got to stop saying that Dawn is the second coming..... she is a good coach..... but she has been doing it 20 years..... how many titles will she win? Boston was a great pluck from genos backyard.... she is a junior now... how many titles will she haveWilson was nowhere near the level that DT or Stewart were. Bad comparison IMO. The level of talent SC has now is much better than it was during Wilson's era.
Second coming may be a stretch but her teams have gotten better and better over her time at SC. Back in 2014 everyone called SC a pretender for getting the #1 seed somewhat controversially, and from there she's steadily improved the program into a national power.Ya that is fair and i agree with you..... having said that.... people have got to stop saying that Dawn is the second coming..... she is a good coach..... but she has been doing it 20 years..... how many titles will she win? Yup, he hasn't been in a Final Four in quite awhile. Oh wait...'Could' Geno have JUMPED THE SHARK as far as coaching in "Today's Game" ? Yes, Geno is one the greatest Women's Basketball Coaches in NCAA History (Tara is still going as well). However, has today's game have passed him by? Or maybe this team truly misses SHEA RALPH ??

Maybe she was the interpreter between 67 year old Geno and 18-22 year old players. My employees in that age bracket are certainly hard to understand, mainly that they use every second of sick leave and vacation time. I have managers in place that are younger than me and can bridge the gap.'Could' Geno have JUMPED THE SHARK as far as coaching in "Today's Game" ?
