Geno on Aubrey

I’ve mentioned before that I watched Aubrey in each of her last 4 HS games, the NY State semis & finals, and the Fed Cup tournament. Against really good competition she put up 30+ pts, scoring in every conceivable way. So clearly, she can score.

Geno doesn’t need 30+ from Aubrey. He needs her to understand where to go in the offense, and to shoot the ball with confidence when she’s open. If Aubrey can do those things, she will be the 5th starter over Kyla & Anna, because of all the other things she can do that no one else on the team can do.

Time is of the essence here. The Baylor game showed that UConn is very close, but needs something else to put the team over the top. Aubrey is the X-Factor. Imagine this UConn team with a super-athletic wing who can guard 1-5, rebound and is capable of picking up some of the scoring load. It would increase the Huskies odds of winning it all significantly once the Big Dance rolls around.
Every thing you say is true it takes time to learn how to play the game the way Geno wants .They are fighting more than basketball. They fighting getting use to college their studies new friends just the pace alone is enough to get you going. They doing good but i know what you are saying,THIS UCONN

If you remember Walton would have had to go against the PC Friars an Marvin Barnes and Ernie D if Barnes hadn't broke his leg against MS
WOW .. gr8 memory, you really know your basketball .. and while we're at it, we should point out what a basketball genius that John Wooden was.
1) he first won a coupla NCAA titles with a backcourt-dominated team: Walt Hazzard/Gail Goodrich[&Erickson].
2) then, he won a couple more titles with a center-dominated team: Lew Alcindor
3) then a couple more titles with a forward-dominated team: Wicks&Rowe
4) then, he won a couple more titles with another center-dominated team: Walton
My favourite men's game was when Walton dropped 44 on Larry Kenon's MS team [shooting 21/22] in an early 70s NCAA tourney tilt!!!

If u recall Walton would have gone up against the PC Friars with Marvin Barnes and Ernie D if Barnes hadn' t broke his leg against MS

Start Aubrey and stop the yo-yo if she makes a mistake. Give her a load of minutes and see what happens. Confidence comes from playing without fear of being pulled whenever you make a mistake. The only way for Uconn to significantly improve this year's prospects is for her to become a factor. The other two players have no chance to be really good, but she does.

Eggzackly what I said in a prior post: "baptism by fire" .. throw her into the deep end of the pool, eh?...

Actually you're forgetting All-American Kevin Stacom [Providence] who in the prior game led the Friars to victory over Maryland after ErnieD fouled out with 10 minutes to go. At the time, Maryland was #2 in the polls with the likes of Len Elmore, Tom McMillen, John Lucas et al. Colourful MD coach, Lefty Driesell, billed his squad, "the UCLA of the East". It was a gr8 year for men's hoops, so much talent!

Geno likes a player to make a quick contribution when they come off the bench. If Kyla doesn't start..what spark off the bench would she provide? Game changing pick?..Game changing charge?..buzzer beating 3pter for the win?

Super job! But he was a tad like Geno in the respect that his teams were always stacked. Hazzard’s team was his first title after many years as a coach. He had Indiana heritage. He could win with any type of player. The press was revolutionary. I’m more a fan of the Wicks-Rowe team. The Celtics ended up with both of them. They beat Artis Gilmore. Remember Steve Patterson?
How about his last championship? That’s how it’s going to look for Geno. Geno’s going to win with a team like that, a team that’s not overwhelming favorites. This year or next year.
If I recall correctly UCLA played the same Duke team that had destroyed Uconn earlier in the tournament in the final. Duke had a front line of 6'11" and a couple of 6'10" players. Keith Ericson at 6:5" jumped center for UCLA. And they ran Duke out of the gym.

No chance, huh? If you don’t know what you’re doing and you keep not doing it, it can ruin a player. I see a possible future upside to Aubrey and with a lot of work and patience, she might approach Christyn. But there was a reason why she was No. 33. The team needs to give Crystal best possible team for her senior year.

Yes, and the press found out that Maryland was "woefully slow".

The other upside of this is that Aubrey would make up for a lot of her offensive mistakes with defense and hustle.

Aubrey plays school yard basketball. She had one incredible game. However, until she learns to shoot, her minutes will be limited.

I agree ! Let Aubrey play !
