First of all, I throughly enjoyed this game. I'm not going to throw any darts or spears at anyone. I just sat back and enjoyed the game for game's sake. It was an exhibition game against a vastly inferior opponent. For the first game of the season, this was not bad. Basically an organized scrimmage with refs and a crowd.
It's too early to draw any conclusions. I always like to wait until I see at least 5 games before I begin to draw any conclusions. Five games give me a fair sample size to draw from. Let's see what they do Wednesday against Trevecca.
I was most impressed with Anna and ONO today. ONO 2.0 had a double double today (16/11) with 4 blocks. Something I said during the summer that she could/should do
EVERY game. She looked a lot more comfortable out there today. The more she plays, the sooner the game will slow down for her.
Aubrey looked OK, but I need to see more from her. But what little I saw, I liked. I'm expecting BIG things from her this season, as much as you can expect from a freshman that at this point in the young season, has no clue what she's doing yet. One thing I was able to see was her athleticism. That was easy to see. She's fluid and smooth. Once she figures things out, she going to be "nice."
"Megatron" (Megan Walker) is going to be HUGE for us this year. 28 points today in a near perfect performance. Megan gave us exactly what I expected from her entering her 3rd season. She played within the flow of the game, and let the game come to her. Much different from her first few games as a freshman. She's matured. Just like Aubrey will in time, but over the course of the next 2 years, not right away.
Crystal and Christyn are going to give us more of what we saw from them last year. I know what we're going to get from them. Dangerous (Dangerfield) is the floor general, and Geno is the puppeteer. Pulling the right strings at the proper time, making it all come together, and making it look easy.
I had never seen Anna. Did you notice her running the fast break to begin the game, and how she was able to get to the basket? After a few games, I think Anna will be fine. Remember, this is all new to her. New country, new team, new teammates, new coach, different style of play than she's use to etc. Give her time to settle down and settle in. From what I saw today, Anna should be a starter for awhile until/unless someone else steps up. She'll fit. She'll be OK.
I was also impressed with what I saw from Molly and Kayla. They look like they can help us this year. I didn't see enough of Evelyn Adebayo, so I'll have to reserve judgement on her just yet. I'll look at a replay of this game to see what I missed the first time. Can't wait for Wednesday when another "wide-eyed" Division 2 team comes to visit. Should be fun.
