People have been saying Geno wasn't happy about Q not having a game so Stewie could have a home game in Syracuse. That may well be true but animosity first grew during Maya's Soph year. The cuz we're manhandling her when it was getting dangerous and Geno was so upset he left Maya in for 36 mins. in a 107-53 win. That was the night she scored 40 .It was like Geno and Maya were saying "you want to play this way then this is what I can do to you"

Ah yes, I remember it well. People on this site go on and on about Tenn and ND, but Pat and Muffet are gone now. To me those rivalries will never be the same. But Q? Q is still there and whenever I see his face my blood starts to boil. Beating him to me is sweeter than any win over Ivey and Harper could ever be.

Hillsman is still one of the BIGGEST "cry-babies" in wcbb. Watch him tomorrow. You'll see him cry and whine to the refs on almost every play. 😭

I happen to like this 'snipit' in this video of the 2017 NCAA 2nd round tourney, where (at the 1 minute mark) Samuelson grabs the rebound and throws the 'Monatan to Rice' bomb to Kia, as Sykes goes by.............. 'Fly Birdie Fly'! Reminds me of when Larry Bird did the same thing, but hit the guy in the butt, BEFORE he shoots the 3! :)

For a long time, I have not admired the attitude of the Syracuse coach. His arrogance and swagger and sometimes his mouth get in the way of good competition. When the play tonight I would like a win to be convincing just to send a message that mouth does not win games.

Maybe it's been done already. But I'd like to see a thread on the best UConn team to not win a NC. This 2016-17 team (and perhaps moreso the 2017-18 team) was just unbelievable. Great defense. 3 point threats all over the floor. Two (eventual) national defensive players of the year. Three AAs. One of the greatest passing teams in UConn history. Gabby. Phees, Lou, Kia, Saniya. The fact they were largely underclassmen playing in the shadow of perhaps the greatest UConn team of all time (2015-16) makes it all the more remarkable. Sometimes the best team doesn't go all the way.

For me it's Rutgers. I'll never forget Coach What's Her Name intimations about Geno's conduct......What a scoundrel!
BTW: Is she still coaching?

Agree - time for CD to give Q a ('nother) beatdown for the ages...

I think this game is also infamous for Doty going down near the end of the half. It was a non-contact jump stop on a fast break and she just crumpled. Emotions running high after that.

Actually Caroline's injury was at the top of my Negative Orange Memories list. I'd long since lost sight of Maya's 40 points.

I was at the game and it was worse than chippy; it got downright ugly. Maybe Geno chose to leave Maya in there, but from where I was sitting, it was Maya who all but demanded to be able to stay in (and run up the score). Doty's injury, while not necessarily a direct result of one dirty play, was the culmination of chippy play and refs who allowed it to get out of hand. Everyone at the game seemed as angry as I was. And I had actually never seen Maya so steely.

Well, I find Q very entertaining, and he's done a really good job at Syracuse. People here have a really hard time with opposing coaches who like their players to be physical with UConn. I think our Huskies can handle it, and they'd better if they want a shot at the next level.

Agree. To add, IIRC, I think Geno was asked about it in the presser. He said something like "Our guys did not like what they (Syracuse) were doing. I asked them what they wanted to do, and they said 'leave us in - we want to slaughter them'"...

That is not why I dislike Q. If what you say were true I'd hate Stringer and Katie Abrahamson-Henderson.

Well VOD, you got your wish. :)

If Q is such a good coach as some posters have stated, you would think that the zone defense would be changed after their first timeout in the second quarter. UConn started to increase their lead by exploiting Cuse's zone. Then tore it up in the third where they scored almost all of their points in the paint.

Difference between being physical, and being chippy. Tonight started out chippy.
