Gill St. Bernard's (43) vs Long Island Lutheran (69) (February 18, 2025)

Here's a full game of Gandy Malou-Mamel played last Tuesday. She's wearing #42 in black (4 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blks), you can also watch LuHi's side in white, UConn P.O.I 2026, #1 Olivia Jones (27 points and 10 rebounds). There's not much of Gandy's team on video this season. So here's a game against a good team to see where she currently stands. Gandy's stats are my personal observations, nothing official. For Olivia Jones, it was in a Newsday headline, article not available for free.

Gill St. Bernard's got off to a good start against a LuHi team that had lost 5 of its last 8 games. The LuHi team was without two top-quality players who were absent due to injury, UConn P.O.I 2026 Sanai Green (ACL) and Savvy Swords 2026, their top-ranked player. But they're still a good team. After an interesting first quarter, the home team got going and never looked back.

For Gandy, the challenge remained: for much of the match, she was up against #10 Emily Forester (sophomore 2027) at 6'3'', Gandy at 6'6''. From what I've seen, I don't want to be negative, but it's clear that she's going to have her work cut out for her. She has an impressive stature and seems to have a great attitude.

I've noted a few passes that you can go and watch to make your own opinions, on the video scroll line just click on, 31:00: 3 offensive rebounds before finishing, 31:43: low post, drop step jump shot, 36:14: low post, drop step left hand hook, 51:28: pass back door along the baseline, on three of her sequences she fails to hit the target, even from that close. For my part, I think she should be considered a project, and I don't really like the word. In 2020-2021, the word was mentioned for Piath Gabriel, and the results were not as expected. The game starts at 29:45. His stats (attachment) are similar to last year, PPG 17.6 vs 16.6, RPG 9.52 vs 9.64.

I don’t care for the term ‘project’ either. The last two projects lacked intensity, as well as skills in one case. Gandy may lack skills, but intensity she’s got and that’s the one thing a coach can’t supply. No guarantee she can learn the skills in 4 years, but that is at least something coachable.

When I lacked skills, I was "cut" - would have delighted to be a "project" , even if mildly offended. Hard to come up with a kînder word to describe a recruit that will need a lot of work to achieve mutual goals

It's funny. I just watched the Mississippi St/Missouri game and was struck by the way Okot of Mississippi St plays, and I thought of what Gandy might be able to provide UCONN in time: rim protection, rebounding, floor running and finishing around the basket.
Here's hoping...

Probably a good comparison of what we hope Gandy could be. If she is a top level rebounder and defender/shot blocker who can make her bunnies, I think we will be happy.
