Gampel + XL Seating Configuration Changes

We have noticed that the steps in the lower bowl are rather 'trippy' and older folks/people with issues have trouble with them. Really sketchy. People stumble all the time. Assuming replacing seats would mean replacing steps, too.
Yep, from what I understand it’s the entire retractable part of the lower bowl. It’s hit end of life so the entire “bowl” is being replaced.

Also, now that volleyball has their own dedicated facility, there's no need to have retractable seats.

Gampel is stilll technically a convention center too. They host events and graduation there with the seats retracted. Maybe that will change with the renovations but from what I understand the new seats are still retractable.

My understanding is just the opposite.

Oh cool, maybe I misunderstood. Even more interested to see what they’re putting in now.
Same. It wouldn't surprise me if they went with some type of club seating format, which I don't love, though it is undoubtedly lucrative, because I'd rather see more people having access to the arena.

.-.
XL just sent out an email with a renovation update. Included a map of where the new premium seating is going.

I’d imagine the student section needs to move with the club space going on that side.

Is there a time frame for when it will be done?

Isn't the proposed club space opposite the current student section?

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure the shorter upper level "end zone" area is on the same side as the student section.

Yea, it’s shorter because that’s the side the bar went in.

Looks like they are going to put the students on the other side of the court.

Step 1 - Set fire to XL Center.

Step 2 - All students around lower bowl at Gampel including the sides.

Step 3 - $2 Miller Lights starting at 4pm on game nights.

Step 4 - Play select games in Bridgeport to entice Fairfield County donors.

There’s about 200 urinals for a 10,000 seat arena, short of renovations porta potties would be the easiest short term option. Again, if integrated into a more permanent looking component like a beer garden or something. Of course it’s not ideal, but rather than being critical, how about you propose something?

Assuming that approximately half of the attendees at a sports event are male (which is a reasonable estimate), we can calculate as follows:

  1. Estimate Male Attendees:
    • For a 10,000-seat arena:
    • Estimated male attendees = 10,000 / 2 = 5,000 males.
  2. Apply the Ratio:
    • Using the ratio of 1 urinal per 50 males, we calculate:
    • Total urinals needed = 5,000 males / 50 = 100 urinals.
Thus, for a 10,000-seat arena, it would be appropriate to provide approximately 100 urinals to ensure that male attendees have sufficient access during events.

Final Answer: The recommended number of urinals for a 10,000-seat arena is 100 urinals.

Shouldn’t you factor in timing? Like when all 5000 need to go at halftime?

What is the age of the average male fan? We older guys may require urinal use with greater frequency. Something to take into consideration, especially with $3 beer night!

So the loge seating is where the wheelchairs used to go which wasn't ideal to begin with - where are they going with these changes?

The Event Level Club Seats are in the existing student section. I suppose they'll be moved to the other side, nearer in UConn bench. Although, unless they switch benches, I don't think the visiting team would have to face the students in the second half. Usually coaches like to have their offense in front of them for the second half.

The Event Level Bunker Suites will be between both benches. Unless, of course, the benches are moved to the other side.

I suppose we'll have to wait and see

Actually doesn’t look too bad. Up to speed with other arenas.

No. The upper level (200 level) was not affected by the bar. One side was always higher than the other.

Talking the lower level. They took out 3 or 4 rows for the bar. It’s the area where they have a few rows of open chair seating now.

Kinda-Unrelated: what happens during home games over winter break re: student section? Does the university “fill” the student section with others? Have to assume many won’t be there. Talking specifically about Jan. 5 Gampel game vs. PC.

The lower student section is always for the students. They usually fill it regardless of break. The upper is sold for games there are not enough student claims.

You can also add in there are addition toilets that can be used for "overflow" crowd. But 200 urinals at Gampel should be able to accommodate the halftime rush.
