Games Feb. 17-23

That does sound odd..... I dont think Ive ever seen Hoover smile or hug
And I found it jarring that players from the losing team would be all smiles after such a tough loss.

Villanova all over DePaul 68-51 with 5+ minutes left in Q4

Huge upset brewing in the America East.

Stony Brook (25-1, 13-0) trails Maine by 4 points with 40 seconds left in OT.

The Black Bears ended the nation's longest win streak at 22 games.

Maine has an unusual postgame tradition. They dance the electric slide. It's uh, kinda funny :)

Darn..... I thought it would be cool for a mid major to roll into the NCAAs with a 30-1 type record... Head bang

Even with a 30-1 record, they probably would've been no higher than a 14 seed.

a 14 seed is a good seed for a team from the American East.... though I remember Albany was a 13 and 12 seed coming out a few years ago.

Diop from Louisville is playing well vs her former squad. The Cardinals are playing without their starting backcourt

IIRC they were a 12 seed, beat #5 Florida in the 1st round and then lost to host Syracuse.

That was Coach Abe's last year at Albany before taking the UCF job.

in 2015.... they were a 13 seed... and came to Durham and lost on a late 3 pointer by Rebecca Greenwell. There were a few upset BY'ers on here........ guess they liked Coach Abrahmson back then

The VPI fans have been waiting on Sheppard to break outta her slump. Well she has broke out today  UVA 64 VPI 63 heading into the 4th. Guess Ill be postponing my walk

Just did some research just for kicks.

Albany had never been to the NCAAs before Coach Abe took over in 2010. Starting in her 2nd year there, she took the Great Danes to the NCAA tournament 5 years in a row:

2012: 23-9, #14 seed, lost 1st round to #3 Texas A&M, 69-47 (after trailing by only 4 at halftime).
2013: 27-4, #14 seed, lost 1st round to #3 North Carolina, 59-54.
2014: 28-4, #15 seed, lost 1st round to #2 West Virginia, 76-61.
2015: 24-8, #13 seed, lost 1st round to #4 Duke, 54-52.
2016: 27-4, #12 seed, beat #5 Florida, 61-59; lost 2nd round to #4 Syracuse, 76-59.

Impressive that she also took UCF to the NCAA tournament in only her 2nd year there, this time as an at-large team.

Not gonna go to the VPI message board anytime soon if they don't pull this one out.

VPI loses to their hated rival.. 86-76... and drops 8 places in the RPI

Hokies are by no means safe. Their resume really isn't that good, despite their strong-ish RPI. A win over Purdue, and after that ... Virginia? Belmont? It's pretty weak.

LSU is trailing Georgia 71-56 at home with just a couple minutes left. The good season overall is now about to go down the drain without Mitchell.

73-56 final

I will say, Georgia has been playing better lately and are tougher than their record shows.

Losing Mitchell increases the pressure on LSU to shoot well, and we know that hasn't been their strength.

Wild finish in the Texas Tech-Iowa State game.

Tech led by 6 with 37 seconds to play. Chrislyn Carr commits a dumb foul, ISU makes 1 of 2 FTs, and it's a 5-point game with 35 seconds left.

Over the next 21 seconds Tech commits 3 turnovers and 3 fouls, and ISU ties the game on FTs.

Then Chrislyn Carr was fouled on a 3-point attempt with 1 second remaining, and sinks all 3 FTs to give Tech a 3-point win.

My esteemed colleague @DefenseBB will be ecstatic :)

Yup, we could not stop Staiti. She played extremely well. She has a lot of range for a big girl. Nice touch around the rim.

If we don’t beat Vandy, it’s going to get ugly down the stretch. I don’t feel good on the road at Arkansas.

Has there ever been a day in WCBB history with this many top 25 upsets by unranked teams? We're at 7 with OSU-Cal essentially tied at the half...

Especially unusual because 4 of the 7 upsets have been in the upper half (8-12 range) of the top 25.

Michigan dominated the 1st half but Michigan State stormed back in 3Q to cut the lead to 4. It's heating up in East Lansing.

.-.
Michigan had 2 starters foul out well before the game was clinched, but they hung on for the win.

Important win for Michigan after they got routed by Rutgers in their last outing. Keeps them in the 8/9 seeding for now.
