Team, you have an opportunity today that few people ever get; a shot at attaining generational greatness. You have the chance to make an impact so powerful that it will shape the trajectory of UConn; not this team, not the football program, not the athletic department; the entire University of Connecticut.
That is a lot of pressure to put on you young men, and we all - coaches, fans, your families and friends - recognize that burden you carry. I am here to tell you, and hear me - you are ready. The strongest steel is forged in the hottest fire, and you have been through the furnace. Remember the many hours you spent in meetings learning plays and schemes, on the field practicing techniques and strategies, and in the gym building strength, power, and endurance. Frankly, I worry for the men standing across the line of scrimmage from you today. Years from now, when football is a distant memory, those men will wake from a turbulent slumber, covered in sweat, eyes wide with fear, whispering the name "UConn".
Finally, and most importantly, remember that you will not stand on the field today by yourself; you will be with your brothers. There is no adversary stronger than the bond connecting each of you. Together, you will make the opponent feel the power of your bond with every hit, every run, every tackle. Together, you will make them dread being on the field against you.
