We had the most favorable last year too IMO. There’s probably some inherent advantage since we can’t see the LSU or TX who are usually within the top 7 seeds. Or maybe Dawn just has a loyal friend on the committee.

I don’t have a gripe about U$C vs Clemson. Will possibly help attendance in that our fans may want to see two of our early foes for early next season. Of course both of them will be quite different next year. U$C will have Juju back and Clemson has a pretty darned good recruiting class coming incoming next year.

"Clemson has a good recruiting class coming in"--so did Stanford this year, and we see how that turned out.
I'm not saying that their coach isn't better than the Stanford coach (maybe he's not--we see what happened when the two teams faced each other almost three weeks ago), but I am saying that people may want to pump the breaks on Clemson's supposed "inevitable ascent" until we see what their foundation is going to be as a program. They've been relying heavily on seniors/grad student transfers for two seasons now (and will have to do so again next season because they're losing a ton). That's not a recipe for sustainability.
I don't believe that either team will cause a boost in turnout. Despite being a "rival", Clemson is not going to present a physical challenge to us in any way, shape, or form.

I know we have Maryland, So Cal, UConn, and maybe the Players Era event in Las Vegas (was Thanksgiving last year) in November 2026.
Then UNC in Charlotte, Clemson, Grand Canyon.
Should know pretty quick the strengths and weaknesses.

Poppie may choose to start all freshmen next year. Not wise if he wants to return to the tournament next year, but could payoff in the long run. “ Inevitable ascent?” Yeah, I believe Poppi can ascend. To our level? Almost certainly not during Dawn’s reign but that could give us some better competition

Who are the top players in the women's NCAA bracket? Where do Azzi Fudd, Hannah Hidalgo and Lauren Betts rank?
According to ESPN, we have four of the top 25 players in the tournament:
8: Joyce Edwards, sophomore
18: Raven Johnson, senior
24: Ta'Niya Latson, senior
25: Madina Okot, senior
Would be nice to pay it all off by bringing home a natty on April 5.

Well, we’re off and running, with an expected demolition of a 16 seed by a number 1 seed. The games get tougher the higher you advance. As Dawn said, Southern was “out-athleted”. That edge should continue until (if) we reach the Final Four. Then, all bets are off.

South Carolina 101, Southern Cal 61
A 40 point beatdown… SoCal was outmatched right out of the gate. For South Carolina, everyone played well, some better than others. Defense was stout. Bench contributed 34 points. Yes, SoCal was missing JuJu Watkins, but I don’t think she makes up a 40 point deficit. It will be interesting next year to see how Jazzy and JuJu share the ball.
Next up: Oklahoma, who beat us in OT in the regular season. Gotta believe Dawn will have an answer for Chavez this time. Okot vs. Beers will be the key, and Okot has been playing well lately. I trust in Dawn (and we have Raven 😄).

Makeer has been stepping up her game lately. She was phenomenal yesterday against Southern Cal. I need a highlight reel cause some of those takes were eyebrow-raising. With her size and PG skills I'm starting to get Rhyne Howard vibes.

I also disagree that she has PG skills to be honest. I think she plays PG about as well as the average non-PG playing guard.

Howard isn't the best ball handler either but she is passable. Makeer was doing alright against Jazzy Davidson's full court pressure in yesterday's game and she likes to use that behind the back move to switch hands much like Howard.
Makeer is also known for getting hot from the 3 (hasn't materialized at SC yet). Like there were a few FIBA games where she went unconscious and hit like 3 threes in a row so she has that streakiness like Howard. She also plants her foot and accelerates similar to Howard whenever she is slashing to the basket.

Raven gets no respect from ESPN. There’s an article out today on the best 25 players in the Sweet 16. Joyce, Tessa, and Madina made the list… no Raven. Defensive Player of the Year in the SEC, Third team All American… and just doesn’t hit their radar.
Honestly, I could make a case for all five of our starters… Latson became a tremendous “team first” player after leading the nation in scoring last year, and she’s no slouch in either end of the court.
Yes, I have garnet & black bias… guilty as charged. Raven deserves better, though.

Without looking at the list, I'm guessing that they took Raven out and replaced her with Kymora Johnson. Not a bad move given UVA's run (and recall that Kymora didn't make the original list while Raven did), but I will say this. There are two sides of the ball. Raven plays them both. Kymora does not.
Oh well! May the best Johnson(s) make it to the Final Four!

I agree. Gut feeling is there is some recency bias based on what Kymora has done to get Virginia to where they are. Virginia's upset of Iowa at home, regardless of how they may be seen as a 2 seed, is what March Madness fans live for. Yes, Raven plays both sides of the ball, but Virginia is an underdog story, which I'm guessing ESPN wants to leverage right now. 🤷♀️
