SMU Game Notes on UConn
SMU Roster

• SMU opens American Athletic Conference play against Connecticut Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium (32K) at 3 p.m (CT).

• The Mustangs are coming off a 44-21 win over Arkansas State at home last Saturday and are seeking their first 4-1 start since 2011. A win over UConn would give SMU its first 4-0 start at home since the same season.

• James Proche was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll following his performance in the Mustangs’ win over Arkansas State. Proche registered three catches for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also had a kickoff return for 14 yards. It was the sophomore’s secondcareer multi-TD game and third-career game with 100+ yards.

• The Mustangs’ 311 rushing yards against Arkansas State were the second most under Chad Morris (Nov. 21, 2015 vs. Tulane) and 14th highest total posted by an FBS team in week four. • SMU amassed 577 yards (311 rushing, 266 rushing) in the week four win, the most since the Mustangs posted 578 against USF in 2016.

• The Mustangs were 4-4 in the red zone against Arkansas State and are now 14-14 on the season. • SMU is one of 16 teams in the country to not lose a fumble, while scoring 2 defensive touchdowns.

S Anthony Watkins should be ready to play this week.

Hergy hasn't taken a redshirt year, and you can play in 3 games (not 4) and take a medical redshirt. Depending on when he is medically ready to come back, that has to be considered. Same with Jordan Swann if the concussion keeps him out a while.

Crozier took his redshirt year due to injury, so there is every reason to assume he would be granted a 6th year if he applies. The more interesting part of the Center story is that Brandon Vachery started at Center for a year, during which we went 6-6, but apparently has not been moved back into the middle to take the slot.

>>With Crozier's injury and Hopkins no longer starting, the Huskies top two offensive linemen in terms of career starts won't be with the top unit on Saturday as each of them have started 18 career games. Reserve tackle Brendan Vechery has made 15 career start, most of them at center. This makes redshirt sophomore left tackle Matt Peart the most experienced among the first team offensive line based on career starts.<<

>>With the changes, just eight offensive and defensive players will have started all four of the games when the SMU game get here - Peart, guards Trey Rutherford and Cam DeGeorge, defensive linemen Luke Carrezola, Foley Fatukasi and Cole Ormsby, Summers and linebacker Junior Joseph. The first two were actually pretty good. The 2014 game may have been the low point in UConn FB history, worse than the Navy game last year.

Unfortunately, the forecast has been changed. Originally it was supposed to be about 78 degrees at kickoff. Now it looks more like 83. That's about 95 (or more) in the sun. Pray for clouds.

On average, we beat those guys by 21 points at Moody.

Since this game is being played within a few hundred yards of Moody...

Only real question is whether the football team or basketball team will win by more this year.
