You can crash down the ends to disrupt the option but they can’t take too shallow or deep a path or you get burned. Not a fan of having the ends maintain outside leverage and getting strung out hoping LB fills because if the LB doesn’t get there or overshoots the cut up hole is huge. Frankly, they need to put a lot of bodies in the box play soft cover and make them throw. The best way to stop an option is penetration into the backfield and everything being pursued inside out. Our biggest D weakness is we way over pursue.
It will be interesting to see what Brock does. I think a coach’s Philosophy really dictates how the option is approached. I’ve had experience with “bend don’t break” coaches who are happy with a 3-4 yard gain. We were taught the outside leverage technique.

I think Brock will try different looks to try and keep the QB guessing and looking for the right read. He’ll probably be more aggressive and do a lot of run blitzing too.

Unless I’m misreading, ‘gonna be tough to root against’ has some suggestion of rooting…

I get what you’re saying though. I always feel conflicted rooting against Army. But then my son who is in the Army (did ROTC at RIT),
roots for UConn too.

Sounds like we all agree that you don’t have to hate the opponent, and rooting for UConn doesn’t mean you’re disrespecting those young men who’ve decided to serve in the military.
Some of us on this board have a long history of being fans of UConn hockey predating UConn's 1-A/FBS football jump. We have seen Air Force hockey play UConn at Freitas several times and have never had a problem rooting for UConn in that situation. "Gonna be tough" is a rhetorical expression, I hope that we can all agree. I am gonna go out on a limb and suggest that the Rent tomorrow is not gonna have quite the electricity or animus that it had last Saturday -- which is where I was going with the thought.

I agree with that, but that will have nothing to do with the Air Force being a service academy. BC, Syracuse and Duke will produce extra adrenaline in the stands, then any P 4, then maybe someone local. A MWC team from Colorado, service academy or not, won’t cause as much adrenaline in the stands.

uconn site looks like lots of availability in the corners. The rest is mostly full. Not a ton out there on seatgeek. Should be decent sized crowd if the students come back out.
Unfortunately, it will be a lot smaller crowd tomorrow.

Mora mentioned in his presser that Brown and Bowman were both looking good back at practice this week. Both already played in 3 games this year, so I hope we don't throw them in for a few plays this week and burn redshirts for them. If we hold them out then they can play at FAU and in the bowl and still save a year of eligibility.

Ha! You don't know much about life in the Air Force. We're not talking about the Army, Navy, or Marines.
Ha! You don’t know much about life in our military academies, including the USAFA. /s Days typically begin at 5-5:30 am during the school year.

If you coming from the West .. two left lanes are shut down for construction on 84 in Hartford and traffic is backed up to exit 45.

May wanna take 691 if you can.

Got to the front. Looks like they may be cleaning up and heading home

This game worries me. I think we are better than Air Force and should win but we lost after a tough game with Syracuse then after beating BC. I sort of wonder if we get up for the ACC games then have a hard time getting the same focus the following week against a lesser opponent. I think that might be behind Mora’s comment that there are no statement games, every game is its own entity. Trying to be sure his team doesn’t lose focus after a huge and exciting win over an ACC opponent and take Air Force a little for granted.
This game has me rationally concerned, too. Air Force has the gimmick rushing offense and I can see UConn's defense having trouble with it. After all UConn's defense struggled with Rice's triple option offense. And of course there is the let down factor with the idea UConn played their Super Bowl versus Duke last week

Air Force's defense looks weak, however. UConn's offense has to take advantage of their superior speed, quickness, and athleticism.

Of course, my UConn Football PTSD kicks in as well. I remember how great I felt after they defeated BC, even though BC stinks like all hell, and then that feeling evaporating with the loss to Rice.
