This wasn't gonna happen with the government shutdown, since all public outreach was cancelled. But now it can, I think.

The CT ANG flies C-130H's with Allison (Rolls Royce owned now) engines. Would really love to see the the VT ANG F-35's with Pratt power.

Barnes ANG up in Mass just flew their final F-15 flight this week and will be transitioning to F-35's next year.

Another approach is to option the option. If you are the “read” for the QB. You continue down the line of scrimmage keeping the QB just inside your inside shoulder. This hopefully causes some indecision. The QB is trained to turn it up if the “read” bellies out or pitch if attacked. Any slight indecision allow your teammates to pursue.
It worked 50 years ago. Not sure it would work today.

I actually think you can hit the quarterback a lot more in the triple option than in most other formations. He is a primary ball carrier #1 and that formation thrives on trickery. Faking to the fullback and such so refs let you take a crack at the guy that “fools” you into thinking he handed it off. No different that hitting the fullback after the qb pulls the ball out.

To stop the option you have to stop the fullback. Air Force has been able to get him loose and it is usually big gains. Watch the FB from the 35 yard line in as he can go for 6 if defenders are napping.

In the Mansfield area -15s would fly south for training on Tuesdays or Thursdays in the morning. You could hear them coming at a high speed and look up catch a glimpse as they went by. They would return later at more of a coasting speed. Used to love the A-10s as they would fly at lower altitude. The CT ANG C130s take the place of the A-10s with low level fly byes these days.

You can crash down the ends to disrupt the option but they can’t take too shallow or deep a path or you get burned. Not a fan of having the ends maintain outside leverage and getting strung out hoping LB fills because if the LB doesn’t get there or overshoots the cut up hole is huge. Frankly, they need to put a lot of bodies in the box play soft cover and make them throw. The best way to stop an option is penetration into the backfield and everything being pursued inside out. Our biggest D weakness is we way over pursue.

I get what you’re saying though. I always feel conflicted rooting against Army. But then my son who is in the Army (did ROTC at RIT),
roots for UConn too.

Sounds like we all agree that you don’t have to hate the opponent, and rooting for UConn doesn’t mean you’re disrespecting those young men who’ve decided to serve in the military.

It will be interesting to see what Brock does. I think a coach’s Philosophy really dictates how the option is approached. I’ve had experience with “bend don’t break” coaches who are happy with a 3-4 yard gain. We were taught the outside leverage technique.

I think Brock will try different looks to try and keep the QB guessing and looking for the right read. He’ll probably be more aggressive and do a lot of run blitzing too.

Some of us on this board have a long history of being fans of UConn hockey predating UConn's 1-A/FBS football jump. We have seen Air Force hockey play UConn at Freitas several times and have never had a problem rooting for UConn in that situation. "Gonna be tough" is a rhetorical expression, I hope that we can all agree. I am gonna go out on a limb and suggest that the Rent tomorrow is not gonna have quite the electricity or animus that it had last Saturday -- which is where I was going with the thought.

I agree with that, but that will have nothing to do with the Air Force being a service academy. BC, Syracuse and Duke will produce extra adrenaline in the stands, then any P 4, then maybe someone local. A MWC team from Colorado, service academy or not, won’t cause as much adrenaline in the stands.
