It's going to take time for these guys to learn to play together but there were a few good things tonight.
SCJ looks like he has a high BB IQ and has a pretty sweet jump shot.
Dan Hurley is smooth- he did not look like he was trying to score but I think he could have had 15 + points if he was looking to score more.
Boat had 20 points. Made a few early season mistakes but over all played under control- had a few runs where his shot was going down.
AB looks much better on O- added a jump hook- hit a nice 15 JS.
RP had a quite game but showed some speed and ability to get to the basket.
T Sam looked about the same as the end of the season- which means pretty good- seems to have picked up where he left off.

Phil- still seemed to have trouble finishing shots- it's early but he might be going strait to the gym after the game.

That's the first thing you can think of from watching that game?
First thing, no. Just glad those posts will stop.

Hamilton looked good. Potential to be really special. Cassell looked solid. Nice looking shot and fearless to shoot. I was wondering where our three point shooting would come from this year and looks like he will be a big part of the answer

Biggest thing from Brimah was that he did great job getting into good rebounding position and boxing out. I know only southern but still nice to see the improvemt.

High points. Sam Jr. looked real good and DHam loves to rebound. Terrance looked tough as always. Rodney looked very rusty, but he will be fine in a few weeks.

First games are always a struggle: new players, etc. but I really like Sam Jr. a lot. He can handle the ball , doesn't force things and is a crisp passer. It helps to have a second PG on the floor especially if he can shoot and Sam proved tonight that he can. The kid just looks in control and plays within himself.
The rust showed on Purvis and he'll make more of his shots attacking the rim as the season moves on. He is a terrific athlete. That said, he does not look like he has the instincts or skills of a PG right now. Maybe that will come latter.
I'm really excited about Hamilton. He can play the 2 and 3 and 4 in an emergency. He seems to get himself in the middle of the action. He has a beautiful stroke. Not sure why but he reminded me of Ray as Freshman. We landed a stud in Hamilton and by the end of the season he may turn out to be our leading scorer.
Brimah, Facey and Nolan pretty much looked like the same players as last year but it good to see Brimah take and make an outside shot.
It was only one exhibition game but last I looked we had 20 turnovers and some of these were unforced. KO will be addressing this in practice. The pieces will fit better as they play more games together. This team has the potential to be very good.

Missed the game - I really could use a super long post from the champs99 guy (can never remember his handle).
Box score questions:g

Facey had 9 boards in 18 minutes. Was he that kick butt?
Brimah had a lot of fouls. Ticky tack? Correctable?
It's going to be tough getting used to human free throw shooting numbers.
DHam was 2 of 7 from field, otherwise had very nice numbers. Don't really care about makes/misses, but please tell me - was his shot selection good?
Did we press at all?
Did we push the break much?
How did Rock look in the few minutes he played? His rebounding rate was even better than Facey.

I think Phil will be fine. Had one lay up rim out where he made a nice post move when the defender took away one side he spun out to the other and he took some nice charges and rebounded well. Im more concerned about Facey and Purvis on offense. Purvis looked really stiff, jump shot was just awful. Im sure some of it was rust though. Facey is timid and stagnant on offense, we need production from the 4. Also, without space T-Sam struggles, if he doesn't get fouled he throws up some bad shots in traffic. He also needs to develop some sort of jump shot and needs to work on his left.

How about sam jr though! Kid looked amazing. Great tempo. Sweet jumper. Nice passer.

Facey had 9 boards in 18 minutes. Was he that kick butt? - Yea he looked great on boards and on defense. Offensively hes light years away.
Brimah had a lot of fouls. Ticky tack? Correctable? - A couple were ticky tack. Some were the same as what we saw last year.

DHam was 2 of 7 from field, otherwise had very nice numbers. Don't really care about makes/misses, but please tell me - was his shot selection good? - Shot selection was fine. He was the best player on the court for the first 7-8 minutes then kind disappeared for a while. Looked really good though his handle is way better than I thought. He could easily play the 2 for us.
Did we press at all? - We started pressing late when we went small with D-Ham at the 4. Forced a bunch of turnovers. Closed out the game.
Did we push the break much? - Not as much as I would have thought. Towards the end when we were pressing we got some easy baskets/got fouled on the break when they became tired and turned the ball over.
How did Rock look in the few minutes he played? His rebounding rate was even better than Facey. - he can rebound and moved better than I thought but besides rebounding didn't show much

Honestly, CCSU seemed weak on the boards. Facey attacks the ball well, but he hardly stood out.

I think two of Brimah's fouls were non-shooting, one seemed to be questionable.

Hamilton showed serious restraint more than anything when it came to shooting. I was hoping he'd try and shoot it a bit more to be honest.

No real press at all. They pushed the ball in spurts, Hamilton really likes to push it. Boatright seems to have taken the Shabazz approach of slowing it down a little.

I thought Lubin played well in the first half when he was in. He had a nice face-up drive in the second half that he got fouled on.

Facey. Mostly garbage boards. Box score over sells

Brah. Sme bs fouls looked good overall.

Dham. Great looks a few bad rolls or bounces on some of the misses. Was incredible getting off his shot in traffic. Like an early Ray.

No press. Some fast break but sloppy as expected.

Rock looked slow and a little out of his league. To be expected. Mostly garbage boards, stats look better than he did.

UCann - John - Johny - thanks a bunch guys. Very much appreciate the opinions.

I think Phil's problem is that he doesn't have great hands and he doesn't always know where he is in relation to the basket, which affects his finishing ability.

Very similar to Hilton Armstrong pre-senior year as far as that goes.

Sounds like we had lack of chemistry issues. Turnovers should go down. I hope they hit their free throws like last years team.Purvis playing subpar scares me a little, hopefully it was just nervousness.

If DHam can rebound the way he did vs larger opponents the majority of your line ups will mostly include Sam Jr with the 2 guards and Amida........Kentan has a ways to go. Against a real good PF and C it may change to Phil and AB but early signs say we will need offense so 3 guards will be a big part of this years team.

poster is @champs99and04

First half Brimah was Brimah from most of last season. Second half Brimah was the Brimah in the UCF game last season.

Facey and Lubin can rebound. Facey improved significantly on defense from last season but still lost on offense. Should improve as he gets more game minutes. PN plays decent defense. Still struggling on offense. Lubin still learning.

Man to man d was great all game except covering perimeter players. Tightened up somewhat in second half. Minimal fast break, but pushed the ball up court faster than last season. Most likely the result of the 30 second clock.

DHam is super smooth. SCJ is smooth. Boat can take over a game but needs to do so sporadically. TSam showed great movement to basket. Got beat once on defense. Purvis struggled more than most of us anticipated. That's what happens when it's 18 monte between playing in real games. We should know 6-10 games in if he can get his game back.

To me chemistry issues implies guys don't get along with one another vs. poor play by a team in which the players are either still learning to play with one another or are missing a component to the team which undermines teams overall efficiency.

I felt the team had plenty of good looks and just had poor shooting night. Hopefully this will be the exception as opposed to the rule. There were plenty of decent drives to the basket by the guards setting up the bigs, but the bigs failed to complete. DHam has a great mid game and ability to get to basket. He should have been 6-7 instead of 2-7.

It's one thing to be good in practice. You know your team mates moves and adjust accordingly. Playing against totally knew players can be unsettling for someone who hasn't played against organized comp in 18 or so months. Who knows how long Purvis will take to regain his bb composure.

Was anyone else getting really frustrated with the CONSTANT foul calls? It never ended and made the game so choppy. On top of the turnovers, the game seemed to never get into a groove. It was just really hard to watch. Refs should have just let them play.

18 months is meaningless to real playa with multiskills of elite level

ever see a fossil hop on bike after 50yr tardy and wheeleee-you is what you is

what you are over analyzing is 18 months for dude with limited game

gets dee brain ons

Ok, this post has me convinced Chap's whole illiteracy schtick is a charade that is getting old quick. When he wants to make a point, his sentenses start out clear and make a somewhat coherent thought, then once he has made his point and his post is coming to an end he starts throwing in erroneous letters and abbreviations that make no sense to, "chap it up" as they say.

Thanks, usually people want shorter posts from me lol. I didn't see the game last night, believe it or not, so I'm just as in the dark as anybody else. Thankfully @tcf15 has the game up now, so maybe I'll use some game footage in the preview I'll be putting out next week.
