I was at the game and watched the game again today on tivo and it was an off balance jump for a RB that made Gabby land on her left leg with her right leg out straight and her leg landed in LSU's Bethel arms & she threw it up and out causing the fall (as Icebear said above).
It was called a Flagrant 2 and LSU shot 2 shots on Collier's so-called foul, then KLS shot UCONN's 2 shots for the F2!
I was right there at that end in the corner and Gabby was completely off balance and Bethel in anger threw Gabby away from her causing Gabby to land awkwardly injuring her leg! At first I thought she also hit her head but watching the replay she didn't hit her head at all but did land awkwardly. She walked off with some help by Rosemary. I think as it was happening she was really scared when she landed as she suffered those surgeries in HS!
It wouldn't surprise me if she practiced and played vs MD next Monday night!

is that still around (seriously)... I thought the DVR had taken over

The severity of the foul isn't worth debating. A flagrant 1 foul is defined as "...excessive contact with an opponent.", a flagrant 2 foul is defined as "...contact that is unnecessary, unacceptable, excessive or extreme...". Picking a player up by their leg and slamming them to the ground in such a manner that they hit the floor head first is both excessive and extreme. Case examples often use the term "basketball play" to help the officials determine if the move may have been "unnecessary" or "unacceptable". The only sports where this act would be necessary or acceptable would be MMA and professional wrestling; in Greco-Roman wrestling, the offender would likely lose a point for the head-first aspect.

If you ask me, we have a player that needs to be suspended for their next game, and three officials who need the same treatment due to their either lack of understanding of the rules or failure to enforce them.

you talking about technology... I'm talking about the name/brand TIVO, people still subscribe to TiVo? I have a Comcast DVR and a 320GB Phillips Video Recorder/Tuner that burns DVDs

Yes, TiVo is still a hot item. Check out their site. If you have Comcast TIVO has nice options to replace the Comcast receiver. Much greater storage for more hoops.

Getting back to the foul...
It seems the only difference in flagrant 1 & 2 consequence is that 2 gets the player ejected. Their coach removed her for the remainder of the game, so it seems a moot point in that regard.
Is there a mechanism to suspend the player for another game outside of the University doing it voluntarily? I thought the player threw the leg and slammed her down out of frustration, but it is open to interpretation. What if a player flat out punched another? Any NCAA consequences beyond that game?

Oh we know what happens when you punch a player. Just look at Griner's punishment. That's what it takes to get a flagrant two. Refs err on the side of not throwing players out of a game, so you'll pretty much never see it called.

I thought was, when the LSU girl tossed Gabby's leg, it bent her knee awkwardly. This is what the trainer feared as she checked her knee immediately. Many times it never hurts till the next day after the joint is over flexed. My wonder is how she's feeling today. We'll see if she's donning a brace on that knee.

Nikki sat her, good on her.

How did Williams leg get that high since she was not jumping? It looks as if she kicked her leg up into the LSU player that was jockeying for rebounding position.

Not to imply that it makes it OK for the LSU player to throw her to the ground, but it looks like Williams was using a leg kick to block that player from getting a rebound.

There is no excuse for the LSU player grabbing William's leg and throwing her to the floor but my first thought was "Why was William's leg chest high on a rebound?" It did look like she was kicking the opposing player.

It looks like Gabby often uses her full body to block out, sometimes jumping off one leg, but in no way was she trying to kick the kid from LSU.

DaddyChoc - - - I think of Tivo/DVR as the same thing. I'm 68 and I'm losing my mind so I try to keep things simple.
Understood.... the word TiVo just bought back memories, forgot all about the hoopla surrounding them and their fees

My concern is whether other teams will use the same tactics against her.
They play us physical.

I'm not sure about that... Comcast latest DVR does some incredible thing, not sure how many gb the drive hold, I gonna guess 500 and I have 2 dvrs. X1

Do you use "TiVo".

UConn Boxing-Out Technique

No, wrong picture. This is Odell Beckham pregame.

Gabby is not that type of player. It was just an instinctual type play to try to regain her balance.
I agree. When I lean forward on one leg my opposite leg comes up to adjust my center of gravity over the foot that is on the ground. The greater the lean the higher the leg comes up. I guess if someone was standing behind or beside me it would appear that I was trying to kick them.

The player just plain body slammed Gabby when she was in helpless position.

She should be suspended for at least one or more games.

I was worried about Gabby when she was lying on the floor.

The rules do not allow them to do what you suggest. Nothing that happened before the video review can be nullified.

I know, just saying that should be the rule. And that ref clearly blew it. That slam took a few seconds to play out b

The reason that is not the rule is that it could lead to even worse unfairness and some bizarre occurrences. In this case, it would be easy to undo what happened - since it was only one play. But what would happen if it had been 3 minutes until the next whistle? What if one team out-scored the other one 15-0? Should all 15 points be wiped out? What if LSU's star player fouled out? Should she get a pass to stay in the game? If it were late in a close game, should the clock be reset from 30 seconds back to 3:30, perhaps aiding the team that committed the flagrant? Etc.

You have to be kidding. Go back and watch the replay. She did go up for a rebound. She was not using a leg kick to block the player from the rebound. The player should have been tossed. It was a deliberate foul that could have seriously injured Gabby.
