As many expected, basketball fans have seen the last of Gabby Williams in Chicago. The former UConn star and No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 WNBA draft by the Chicago Sky has been traded to the Los Angeles Sparks, the teams announced Sunday afternoon.
According to multiple reports, the Sparks are working on a contract extension for Williams who was in the final year of her rookie scale contract prior to the suspension.
“We’re excited to bring Gabby Williams into the L.A. Sparks organization,” Sparks general manager and coach Derek Fisher said in a statement. “At just 24 years old, Gabby is a versatile player who still has the potential to make a major impact in this league. She fits into what we’re building in Los Angeles, and we look forward to the future with her in a Sparks uniform.”
Welcome to So. Cal Gabby. LA is a lot closer to Sparks Nevada than Chicago. You'll love it here. Speaking for the local Sparks fans (and local UConn fans), we're extremely happy to have you. It's a "Gabulous" day in the southland.
