It was truly a WOW moment for Gabby, but these are becoming routine for her. I was in my hometown for this one and was privileged to be able to sit behind the bench. The coaching staff, especially Marissa and, yes, Geno himself were unrestrained in their backslapping congratulations for that effort in particular. One can just feel Gabby's confidence level growing exponentially, and the game that goes with it is thrilling to watch.
As always, when one gets to attend a game in person, as opposed to watching on TV, and especially sitting down low, one can focus upon, and observe lots of things one simply cannot via television. In that regard, I have to give a shout out to Kia Nurse, who plays every minute with unrestrained aggression. Her wrist was obviously bothering her, and was clearly adversely affecting her shooting, which made me feel particularly sorry for her as she came off the floor sobbing in the fourth quarter. Her missed shots, however, tell only part of the story. In a game when the Huskies looked great across the board, Kia's contribution was nevertheless significant in ways unreflected in the box score.
