And what leads to the turnovers? Some that I can think of that have been plaguing UConn recently: Can't find the handle on the ball. Careless dribbling, allowing an opposing steal. Wild passes to nowhere. Traveling. Offensive fouls.

The wild passes are the ones that drive me crazy. I can only imagine what Geno thinks about when they occur.

My god, the last few games we were starting to look like UNC ,Maryland, and Tennessee!!! Just throw the ball around,

how many TO's occur during garbage time (did we finally change the name to show me what you got time)... when the game is finally out of reach

Turnovers (going backwards)

vs Louisville, 22
vs Rutgers, 13
vs Duke, 21
vs USF, 18
vs Syracuse 13
vs DePaul, 19
vs Cincy , 16
vs UNC, 17
vs Villanova, 11
vs Providence, 16
vs ND, 27

So who's taking care of the ball?
Minutes played per turnover.

Lewis - 20.1
Doty - 17.0
Hayes - 13.1
Faris - 12.6
Hartley - 11.7
Dolson - 9.6

No surprise that Hartley has the most guard turnovers since she's the one usually handling the ball, but Faris' numbers surprised me. For a player that "doesn't get enough touches" Dolson has a high turnover rate. As a point of reference sophomore Tina Charles turned the ball over just once for every 13.1 minutes played.

"I am (thrilled) that we have more turnovers than field goals," Auriemma said. "I want to even out the playing field, we've won so many games in a row, we've won so many Big East championships in a row that I think it's an opportunity for us to give other teams a chance to win is something I think we owe to the rest of the league so Saturday we are going to continue to throw the ball away and make dumb ass mistakes because we feel like it is good for the game. It keeps the game competitive and helps us build parity in our league and around the country. We are instructing our players to throw it away as (often) as they can and they are listening to us.

Classis wise ass Geno.

I think one reason Stef has so many turnovers is that if she touches a bad entry pass then it becomes her turnover and not the passer's.
When I think about turnovers this year, the one area that stands out vs. previous years has been the entry pass to the low post. I don't think the travels, dribbling steals, offensive fouls, and wild ass passes on the perimeter have been more numerous than in previous years (based on observation, not numbers research.) But the number of really poor entry passes that have no chance stands out to me. And that doesn't include the ones that actually get through, but are to a post in no position to do anything possitive with the ball when they get it.

This is true. And the double and triple teaming of Stef affects both the entry pass angles and small windows, plus Stef is frequently being held and pushed.

What concerns me is Caroline's comment that they have been having a hard time with TOs in practice, too.

I always thought that a passing turnover in basketball would be scored similar to a throwing error in baseball. The scorekeeper decides if the pass was catchable. If not the TO goes to the passer. Just touching the ball has nothing to do with it.

As usual I have a different perspective about Dolson. Contrary to what's been posted, I don't think she has good hands. My original thought was Dick Stuart hands but I've been watching her lately and IMO she has weak hands, but that's only part of the problem. Too often she brings the ball down where the defenders can get at it instead of holding it high. When she has the ball around her waist she's not strong enough to prevent it from being taken away.
