SEC quarterfinals:
  • South Carolina dominated Georgia, 72-48. Led 42-16 at the half and coasted the rest of the way. Alaina Coates DNP (ankle).
  • Kentucky leads Alabama in the 3rd quarter, 43-36. The winner faces SC.
  • Mississippi State vs. LSU, 6p ET. Can MSU bounce back from their worst game of the season?
  • Missouri vs. Texas A&M, 8:30p ET. Missouri has won its last 5 games and 10 of its last 12. A&M had lost its last 4 before beating Florida yesterday.
ACC quarterfinals:
  • Louisville edged NC State by a point, and will likely play Notre Dame next.
  • Notre Dame is leading Virginia by 17 in the 4th quarter. Virginia had kept it close for a while.
  • Florida State vs. Miami, 6p ET. This will be the 3rd meeting between these two teams. Miami played FSU very close in the last one.
  • Duke vs. Syracuse, 8p ET. Duke has won 8 in a row, including a fairly easy win over Syracuse in Durham.
Pac-12 quarterfinals:
  • Oregon State leads Cal at the half, 33-24. Sydney Wiese already has 15 points.
  • UCLA vs. Arizona State, 5p ET. Just five days ago, ASU lost a close game to UCLA on Senior Day in Tempe.
  • Stanford vs. Washington State, 9p ET. Wazzu is the team that won't die, but hard to see them staying in this one.
  • Washington vs. Oregon, 11:30p ET. Should be a very entertaining game.
Big Ten quarterfinals:
  • Ohio State routed Northwestern, 99-68. Kelsey Mitchell had 27; Mavunga still not playing. Northwestern is WNIT-bound.
  • Indiana leads Purdue at the half, 39-24. Tyra Buss already has 14 points. Indiana is trying to cinch up its at-large bid.
  • Maryland vs. Minnesota, 6:30p ET. Minnesota actually played Maryland somewhat close in the regular season.
  • Michigan vs. Michigan State, 8:55p ET. Michigan has lost 3 of its last 4, including a loss at home to MSU.
Today is also the first round of the Big 12 and AAC tournaments, with the bottom teams from these conferences in action.

George Washington has its A-10 quarterfinal at 4:30 ET vs. Duquesne.

Pivec hit a 3 to start the 2nd half and now also has 15. Nobody else for OSU is scoring other than those 2 guards. 39-30 OSU 2 minutes into the 3rd quarter.

44-34 OSU, under 5 minute TO in the 3rd quarter. Wiese will be shooting 3 FT after the break, has 18 and counting. Anigwe heating up, has scored 8 of her 15 in the 3rd Q. Gulic making up for lost time, has scored 5 this quarter after basically not playing in the 1st half.

50-34 Oregon St. after 3 Q. Long scoring drought for Cal. Wiese and Pivec have combined to score 37. Cal shooting has dipped under 30% for the game.

Notre Dame wins 76-59.

Beavers falling apart to start the 4th quarter, now 50-41 w/ 7:54 left.

Terrible 4th quarter for Oregon St. Turnover prone, have been outscored 13-5. Leading by 8 w/ about 4 1/2 minutes left.

Cal went more than 3 minutes w/out scoring, OSU pulls away 65-49. Wiese finished w/ 26, Pivec had 17 and Gulic scored 12 (all in the 2nd half). Anigwe had 26 for Cal.

Beth Burns is an assistant currently and has been a successful head coach!

This doesn't surprise me at all. Good players don't always make good coaches.

Purdue, after trailing by 17 early in the 3rd quarter, comes storming back to beat Indiana, 66-60.

This loss calls into question Indiana's at-large status, and could open the door for a team like Cal.

I have an awfully important announcement.;)
Orange Mountain Designs (The Lady Vols Store at Knoxville, TN) had arranged a book signing event at Carolina Ale House in Greenville, SC on Saturday.
The author Maria M. Cornelius would have autographed copies of "The Final Season".
The event has been cancelled.
Blame the Lady Vols for looking past Alabama to the book signing event this weekend.

UGLY win for OSU. The turnovers (many unforced) are going to catch up with OSU. I LOVE this team, but they make me cringe sometimes. However, I give them credit, as they again found a way to win. Special bunch, especially Sydney Wiese.

I don't get it. Why did the Vols' loss necessitate the cancellation of the book signing event?

Permit me this moment of boosterism

Congrats to Lindsay. I wonder how that career assist total stacks up against the old Big East? Or nationally?

Hmmm, Auburn in? No team that's lost 9 out of their last 12 games deserves to be selected. And 7 of this losses to unranked teams. Oh, I forgot, they're from the SEC...some things never change!

Here's what I found for the all time D-1 record list:

SEC always gets a lot of teams into tourney.

Key is the number standing after the first weekend is usually less than half of what got invited.

No worries!!

How does the SEC get 8 teams with #2 RPI & 3 SOS, while PAC-12 only 6 teams, with the #1 RPI & #1 SOS?

Because bids are awarded to individual teams, not conferences.

I don't think it's typical for any conference to have more than half of its tournament teams reach the Sweet 16, unless their teams are concentrated in the top 4 seed lines. Anyone seeded #5 or lower is not expected to survive the first weekend.
