Every two free throws equals basically 1 foul (yes I know there are missed 1 and 1). You also have to take into account player personnel (and coaching).

But since you asked me to; "there is no trend".

OK

but I'm going to suggest the numbers tell a different story, the math don't lie

Not saying this is the only reason, but that trend coincides with UConn's teams getting smaller and more guard-oriented.

Anyway to adjust for pace? People have said Ollie plays a slower pace.

You haven't taken into consideration that we were playing the majority of our games in the Big East, a league notorious for banging, physical play. Figure out the number of total shots per game for the leagues we played in rather than just UConn.

Not sure why that matters for FT differential.

How about the fact that we rarely seem to hold onto substantial leads (put teams away) which would necessitate
opponents fouling in order to catch up

^^^^^^^^

I'm going to suggest you get fouled more down the stretch when in a close game as opposed to a blowout

I think that's where you were going with this

Also we haven't had the slashing players nor the bully big men we had in the early-mid 2000's which accounts for alot as well

we slashed the entire 2nd half, they had 20 clean stops in the paint

the single biggest difference is not the talent or style, it's the coach working the sidelines

Ollie has to do a better job of protecting his players and working the refs. An occasional T might help too, just not with 90 seconds left in a close game in which you already have the momentum

it's that simple

You really couldn't post this in your other thread? Yes obviously Ollie needs to learn to work the officials. We won last night, move on.

There's a big difference between Gibbs and Purvis getting to the rim and Dyson/Kemba getting to the rim.

Gibbs actually gets blocked, Purvis anticipates contact and even if it doesn't come, let's that mess up his finish.

Kemba and Dyson hit the deck so hard so often I used to marvel and how neither got injured.

tell me there's no trend
There's a trend.

But it sounds like you're suggesting something nefarious is going on. Is that what you are suggesting?

A conspiracy specifically against UConn by the AAC, who manages officials for most of our games, sounds paranoid and ridiculous.

A more plausible explanation is that our more recent players are simply less physical than they used to be.

no, that's not what I'm suggesting at all

what I am suggesting is that coaches who work the officials get the calls, I'm suggesting JC's teams were treated differently because of JC, I'm suggesting KO has to learn this

It might help if you labled the tabular data.

our free throws per game then opponents free throws per game then our differential

we are minus 2.3 per game and 7 of our 13 opponents have been chumps

we trending bad as our competition is trending downward, not good trends at all

How in hell do you find you way back to the boneyard if you need help figuring out what the data are?

One thing to note is that we've consistently been able to draw fouls when posting up Miller or Enoch, both of whom are consistent scorers down low. I thought we should have done more of that last night, and hope we do more of it in the future.

Simplifying the offense is the way to go for this team.

I may be the oddball on the board in thinking that T's do not help at all. I am including the JC era. Right or wrong. 2 FT's and the ball in a close game. Ouch. Just my opinion.
