FOX NIT is Official

.-.
Even if we don’t really care it’s important that the Big East is included
Yes and no. I would like Fox to at least think they could lose the Big East if they came in with a low bid. Apparently there is no competition.

I wonder if this means the big east is staying with Fox.. the big east is in the open market now

It looks like there is an agreement in principle at this point, just hammering out the details.

Why else would we even be in this thing

I’m fine with it.

First, it probably means the Big East is not going to cut adrift by Fox.

Second, 20 schools opted out of the NIT and the final is at Hinkle Fieldhouse; the tournament is dying. Guarantee this thing will be better than the average NIT Tourney.

They should put $500k in an "NLI Agreement" for the winning team to use their likeness in the post event press. Then the players may stick around to actually play in the tournament instead of having all of the top players on each team sit out or enter the portal before the tournament starts and incent the school not to decline the invite..

as long as espn doesnt start an ncaa tournament rival i'm good

More opportunities to see Providence, Cincy and Rutgers lose more games that are even (merely) semi important, ok.

Will tell my children this is the Final Four that matters.

Fair point. No one gets to turn down whatever this is called if Daddy is paying for it.

This exists solely for degenerate gamblers to have something to lose their money on
You can live bet the Korean League at 3 am anywhere.

lol these extra 15 games are not motivated by gambling.

I think that will be true. Teams that say no will be informed they should reconsider. To me this looks like a 3-5 year run. Or it might be a ploy to force the NCAA to expand.

I like this if only for the fact Fox Sports is trying to compete with ESPN.

More competition is always good!

And the guy this screws over is the retiring Butler AD who was more concerned about hosting the NIT than representing his conference on the Selection Committee. The thought that Val Ackerman has stuck us with him for 2 more post retirement years on that committee is crazy.

Not a fan. In a perfect world, the NCAA tournament would go back to 64, the conference alignments would go back to those of the late 80s and there would be no other postseason tournaments but that is not going to happen.

It is the leagues carried by Fox. If the NEWBIE doesn’t do a deal with Fox it will be out. Big whoops. They don’t get to participate in the Loser Bracket. Based on the recent reaction to the NIT I’m betting half the teams won’t want to participate. But I guess if you are St Johns or Providence, losing to some crappy Big 10 team is less embarrassing than losing to a mid-major. At least you can pretend you beat somebody.

Great news for Providence fans to know they’ll finally be guaranteed a post-season birth every year
