Former Huskies Elsewhere - Jan

Glad those guys are having success, but I could go without hearing how the players from KO era are doing post 4th title outside of Jalen. They just weren’t that good outside of him and bring back too many nightmares

30 and 11, on 16 shots, starting for the 12th ranked team in the country.

Despite the consensus here, it has to be viewed as a reasonable possibility that he doesn’t suck.
Not good but not bad. Situationally mediocre.

I remember an ECU game at xl where he went for something like 20 and 12 but nothing like tonight. Good for him looks like change of scenery was a good thing for him. Happy for the kid.

Effective coaching and an earned chance to contribute will win most of the time

In what freakin universe is 30 points and 11 rebounds "not bad."
Had a nice game yes. But I’ve seen him miss countless layups from within 2’ of the rim. One game doesn’t mean he’s good.

Akinjo (technically he was a Husky) just named a Wooden Award finalist

Not like Whaley or Martin have any history of missing at the rim.

It does mean his A game (look out if this wasn't even his A game) against 219th rated USF (which lost to Auburn by 6) is 30 and 12 and he starts for the #12 team in the country.

A 10/5 guy @ less than 20 MPG and shooting over 60% in the AAC is nice, especially as his recent play shows improvement over earlier in the year.

Come on, you got to give him at least a "pretty" good rating!

South Florida has lost to Georgia Southern and South Carolina St. the year. Their best win is against #236 Hawaii. They're ranked #242 on KenPom. It's a good game for Josh against a bad team.

Still have no idea how they gave Auburn a scare early in the season.

I mean yes, good for Josh. Also, Adama did that vs the best front court in the country not USF with one guy over 6’6”

He had a nice game. Guy isn’t good tho.

looks like ol joshy gonna end up at number two, all time, for aac total offense rebounds. prolly top ten, all time, for total boards too. turrible, horrific, waste of space. or not. at the beginning of this thread, i pointed out that he was not allowed to shoot here, factually, notwithstanding some brain damaged put back by some here that 'we ran the o thru him,' patently false. now, he gets to shoot a bit more. good plan, ralphie. josh is big, like walk in a room anywhere on the planet big, and not goofy big, like taco, who josh should be passing for that all time aac o board number two spot.
josh getting paid.
he is, and always was, a dark horse candidate to get league drafted, cuz he's big, and can knock anyone up there on their keyster, all the while looking so pretty.
sum of his blocks were so freakin high off the ground they should be memorialized on a poster.
im not sure if that super sniper super senior guy that we kept has ever had 30 in a game. who would you rather have on the team, hmmm?

The AAC has existed for like 10 years and he's going to end up being a 4 year starter in AAC games. He should be high up on leaderboards.

We tried to run the offense through him in the beginning of his junior year. He took 17 shots in the first game that year. It didn't work against most of the teams, so we went away from it. He had put on weight (up to 260 from 240 in one year) and his finishing struggled (60% -> 50% that year -> back up to 62% now). He turned the ball over too often as a focal point (25% TO rate up from 20% his soph year).

Naturally he's better 2 years later as a legit 5th year (no injury or transfer sit out). Also playing for a terrific coach (better than Ollie or Hurley at this point), who has figured out how to minimize his turnovers.

Unfortunately we never ran any kind of offense through our bigs in the prior coaching (KO) era. Josh was caught at the end of that regime and it really was a sin for him. He had all the tools and size. Just not coached correctly. If he was with his current coach from the get go he would be one of the top centers in college hoops. Very glad/happy for Mr Big Josh Carlton. Keep it going big man.

Josh has always been a lightening rod on the board. I have always been a Josh fan but I understood the frustrations of fans with some of his play with the Huskies. There is nothing wrong with saying it was time for Josh to move on and also being happy that he is playing well. They are not mutually exclusive.

Good for Josh. Wish we still had him but obviously with Sanogo there was no chance he returned.

The weight gain was due to the coaching staff at that time and it back fired. Josh was slower than he was the previous year. Yes, they did try to run the offense through him that year and it did not work because of the weight gain. The following year he trimmed back down and was more effective but time ran it's course on him and was pretty much deemed defective goods at that point.

Houston’s passing and offense in general is better than UConn’s, so I’d say Carlton is getting much better looks there than he would be here. I’m happy for him and he made a great choice, but I’m not playing the what-if game over him.
