along with UNLV, SDSU and LSU according to ESPN.com. He was originally a St.John committ who did a year of post-grad I think. He was a highly regarded propspect in 2011 and still listed as 4 stars. Only brought it up because he is a recent addition to our "recruit considering" section on ESPN.

I think there were academic issues....maybe why a year of post-grad, seems good to go now. West coast kid so give SDSU & UNLV the edge, although with St. Johns interest maybe wants east coast. We need a big....looks pretty good to me.

His nickname in LA is "pelle grant". The NCAA would be investigating him as soon as he got on campus.
So why even look at him then. Either ESPN is wrong about us considering him or Calhoun/staff not concerned...who knows.

I wouldnt get too worked up about it. When it comes down to it, i dont think Calhoun will give him an offer.

Funny that's it's us, Steve Fisher and UNLV considering him...all no strangers to controversy.
Are we actively recruiting him or is he just listing us?

Even if Calhoun is not concerned, that doesn't mean we shouldn't be. I don't question the man when it comes to basketball, but when it comes to academic and character risks I do (and I would argue rightfully so).

I say sign him up. UConn is in desperate need of a big man, and this kid would probably be our most talented big as soon as he stepped on campus. He'd play 25-30 minutes right away, and he'd keep us from having to watch Wolf for 15 minutes a night. Make this happen.

Has he killed anyone with an axe?

If the answer to that question is no, under my new standards, I say take him.

And if he has killed something with an axe, if he has a good excuse, I'm still willing to take him.

Sometimes good kids do bad things with axes and I will not prejudge them.

Rumors are that SDSU was his #1 but they don't have a ship for him as of right now. Iowa St will be his pick with Oklahoma being a wildcard.

I think we need to be a little more thorough than this. What kind of axe are we talking about? Is it a Home Cheapo axe or a Stihl? Or was it a used axe purchased off of Craigslist? Was it tested sufficiently before use? What was the shaft made of? Hickory is preferred but Ash is more than acceptable. What was the heft and what was the head made of? Did he sputter when he picked it up or used it? So, while whether an axe was used is important we can glean more insight into the man by how he selected the axe.

the talk is that he was more people around him with their hands out then jennings from a few years back. No idea if it is true

We need to do our Due Diligence. Where did he get that ax? Was it a gift from AAU coach or "family friend" The upside though is he'll add toughness to this team. One question can you keep an axe on the bench and will it count as a sholly?

If he knows how to swing an axe, perhaps we should send him to Temery's to do some yardwork.

As for the comment that he'd keep us from having to watch Wolf for 15 minutes a night, how do we know that this kid id better than Wolf? We've brought in a number of players over the years who posters felt would be immediate starters yet rode the pines until they transferred.

Considering that he couldn't get into St John's, I'm not sure that bringing him here won't cause some scrutiny that we would be better off without.

I would need to be convinced about a number of things before I see this as anything more than another reach (those from the recent past, Smith, Trice, Harralson hurt us tremendously) who we will eventually regret having brought on board.

Yes. When I want to learn about the character of a young man, I'm very influenced by nicknames posted on the internet that may or may not have come from people who even know the young man.

The world is going nutzo.

My post has nothing to do with his "character". I'm not sure how you possibly discerned that. My post has everything to do with the fact that he's a huge eligibility risk.

He has already failed to qualify once. Reports say that he is not exactly a sure thing to qualify now.

The school he goes to currently has had numerous issues with getting players eligible to play NCAA basketball, and had an agent as an athletic director.

Btw, not every post on here that you disagree with is an indictment of society as a whole.
